117. The COS Coat That Beats The Row, Khaite's City Spots, and Miu Miu's Broken Promises
This is EVERY BODY GETS DRESSED’s weekly curated edit of the only fashion newness worthy of your attention.
Coats That Look Spendier
One of the best-constructed pieces I have seen on the high street in recent years is back in stock. This COS car coat is impeccable and looks 10x pricier. Every time I see it on my friends who got it last year, I’m in awe of the perfectly cut silhouette and precise stitching detail. They made it in Dark Khaki this year, and I had to have it. I wouldn’t trade it for the four-figure versions. If you’re after a minimalist, mid-season coat, this is the one to buy. Sizing note: Size down unless you want the extra generous volume. The sleeves are extra long, and if you are very petite (I’m 5 ft 0), you might find the silhouette a little too overwhelming.
In case you missed the Miu Miu controversy this week: content creator Wisdom Kaye bought $18,000 worth of clothes at Miu Miu, and reported having a button pop off a denim vest and a zipper break off a velvet cardigan as soon as he came home from his shopping spree. You can watch the original, now-deleted videos here. In an attempt to make amends, Miu Miu sent over replacements for both items, and a button from the denim vest popped off again as Wisdom filmed himself unboxing it. Beyond the PR disaster for Miu Miu, this is a reminder that a heritage name and a high price do not guarantee quality. This reinforces the need for outlets like this newsletter that report on tried-and-tested brands (our brand exclusion list is thrice as long as the list of brands we include) and rely on expert reviews (I have several years of experience in fashion product development, and I always invite product experts to co-write our in-depth review columns with me).
Another Utility-Inspired Coat
COS also has this cargo-inspired coat, which has two extra-large front pockets, a pointed collar, and an internal drawcord that cinches at the waist.
Belted Coats
Rue Sophie has some great options for the modern, relaxed-but-not-slouchy silhouette. We like this tobacco-colored belted coat that has a more robe-like fit, this light gray double-breasted one with a more pronounced structure, or this chocolate brown one. Speaking of tried-and-tested quality, my current favorite T-shirt is Rue Sophie’s Owen Boxy Tee. It has a thick, heavyweight yet soft fabric that holds its shape wash after wash, which makes it an excellent fashion tee, the kind that has the same gravitas as a fancier top but a ton more wearability. Sizing note: The fit is very roomy; order your true size or size down.
This double-faced Reformation wool coat has a slightly more unique shape with a cape collar and a leather belt tie.
This new Frankie Shop faux suede coat is worth a look if you’re after a combination of a trench cut and soft material.
Double-Breasted Coats
Two very sophisticated, very office-appropriate options from Rue Sophie: this chic wool, cashmere, and silk, slender, curved shape black coat, and this wool and cashmere blanket coat with a detachable scarf.
Aritzia’s version is boxier and comes in several colors. It looks very streamlined with discreetly placed side pockets.
Collarless Coats
This short faux fur coat from Reformation has a fluffy overlay and a slouchy fit.
This COS longline jacket has a faux shearling texture.
Aritzia’s belted Embrace coat has a smooth crew neckline and an attachable scarf.
Rue Sophie comes through with great options again here with this and this, both made from a blend of wool and silk.
A hooded scarf like this one was my favorite accessory last winter, providing an extra layer against the cold. Good to complement collarless coats.
In case you missed it, we had more real suede and leather coat options in last week’s letter.
Animal Prints, City Cuts
Khaite added its tan and black calf-hair spotted pattern across a few favorites, including their buckle-less waist belt, knee-high boots, heeled mules, and carryall Crosby bag. Our favorites are the smaller Simona bag with a slender shape, if you don’t want the print to overpower your outfit. And the Nevada boots, which combine the print with the perfection of their squared-tip shape.

J. Crew’s cowhide cashmere t-shirt is back in stock. Taking inspiration from baby tees, it has a fitted shape, short sleeves and a cropped hem. We love how the brand styled it over another fitted white tee. You can also try it over a bright, saturated t-shirt, like red or blue.
Reformation made a full-length, long-sleeved, snakeskin-print dress.
Hunting Season launched leopard-spotted accessories on pre-order. This coin purse is a sweet addition to your everyday work bag. The same goes for this card holder. Their Origami bag in this print is a standout accessory. You should also take a look at their new hand-carved necklaces, made from palm tree seeds, and available in cognac and white. Best paired with a crew or scoop neckline.
Nili Lotan’s newest pieces include a cheetah-print cashmere cardigan and sweater tank.
If you’re looking for a full look, Ulla Johnson has a new silk chiffon blouse and matching high-waisted skirt with an all-over blue and yellow feather print.
Statement Pieces
Starting with great dresses. Sacai’s newest dress is overlaid with a paisley-print panel which loops around the neck and falls to a pleated skirt. This Rachel Comey dress is an all-in-one option that mimics an easy breezy sweater and skirt combo. This silk and wool dress is our pick from this week’s COS runway.
Ulla Johnson’s new drop includes plenty of options. We’re obsessed with the curvy, intricate details on this new crewneck and matching skirt. To wear them separately — try the skirt with an ivory-colored top and plum-colored heel. If you’re wearing the top solo, it would go really well with medium-wash denim pants.
Though their fabric composition is not up to par with Ulla’s, we found pieces similar to their aesthetic at Sea NY and Farm Rio. The styling on Sea’s website can come off a bit cottagecore, so if that’s not for you, tunnel vision on each of these recs is key. Check out this part-sheer, part cable-knit sweater and short-sleeve top. This floral-printed top has a ruffled neckline and hem, and ends right at your waistline. This Farm Rio dress’s color scheme is very similar to Ulla’s swan feather print dress. This one has lovely arabesque prints, and this one has a mock neckline with red floral print.
The color of Róhe’s new baggy leather trousers will stop you in your tracks. When I first saw this dress in their new arrivals, I admittedly skipped it. I thought it was just another mini with a pretty neckline detail, but I then realised its flare mirrors that of a shift dress, which I haven’t seen in a while. These trousers have an unusual boning detail that sits right above your waist. Wear them with a tank or tuck a cropped shirt with a relaxed fit into them. Lastly, we recommend these satin trousers, especially for officewear. Their softer material— though still work-appropriate thanks to its pleated finish— will be a good change from your typical wool or cotton basics. Overall, another standout collection from Róhe.
Still Here released new straight-cut jeans, with outseams and rivets giving them breadth and character. The curved lines flow across the blue pair beautifully. The pants in white are best for adding contrast to the rest of your fall fits.
Lemaire’s new robe-inspired top wraps your body twice. Its fabric crosses along the bust and then cinches at the waist. It has a crinkled finish, which makes pieces like these feel less intimidating to wear on a regular basis. They also have this new fitted cardigan with a high, buttonable neckline. Modern Citizen has a similar button-up sweater, also 100% wool, but less than a third of the price.
We adore this wool bustier from AnotherTomorrow. While sculpting the entire torso, it has a precise cut that follows under the arm — a small detail that you can play with throughout the rest of your outfit. Complement it by adding on an angular boot or a blazer overcoat.
The Frankie Shop’s green checkered shirt has a white contrasting collar. You can pair this green with a bright red accessory to match the shirt’s pattern play.
For those looking for new boots, Emme Parsons’ new Minori boots are shaped with a pinched square toe and tilted block heel. They are available for pre-order now.
