At 5’1”, I don’t wear flats. They don’t flatter me and are impractical. I can’t reach the accelerator when driving nor reach things in most of my cupboards. I have spent months mulling over the best alternatives…do you have any minimalist suggestions?!

Hi Mary,

First of all, I am so sorry for the extremely delayed reply! I took some time off and have been catching up on messages ever since. If you are still looking, here are my thoughts (from a fellow 5ft0 woman!):

Going off of what I have observed in this shopping column, I would advise you to check out the brands I've rated highly (namely Aeyde, Emme Parsons, and Totême) and see what high-heel options they have.

- This sandal in black or cream looks minimalist with a small nineties touch with the buckle. The heel is a block heel which makes me think it will be more comfortable and more durable. It's also reduced to -50% now: https://go.shopmy.us/p-6334777

- A few more options from the same brands; this is similar: https://go.shopmy.us/p-6334783 and these are very very cute but my be a bit to low if you're looking to gain some significant height: https://go.shopmy.us/p-6334786 (and the same in cream: https://go.shopmy.us/p-6334787).

- Emme Parsons has tons of very nice minimalist high-heeled sandals options, I can't single one out because I like them all! https://go.shopmy.us/p-6334789

- From Toteme, I love these ones, they look minimalist but also quite unique: https://go.shopmy.us/p-6334793.

- The Ancient Greek Sandals pair that I mention above that I have owned for over a decade also just came out with a block heel version: https://go.shopmy.us/p-6334838

- Another brand not featured in the article but which I really like the quality of is Dear Frances. These look similar, also with a block heel, and if you don't like the thong-shaped straps this might be a better option (they're also on sale): https://uk.dearfrances.com/products/cleo-sandal-black variant=40468881080433&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkdO0BhDxARIsANkNcre_XPeTQZbyMSBhalFFf3I9X_Rl5U5nE2Y_lGo-Wl3nCGbslTJeA5QaAq_3EALw_wcB.

You mention driving but I assume the height of the heel doesn't matter in that regards and you might like a platform? If that's the case.

- I recently tried these on and they are INCREDIBLY comfortable. I stood in them for hours and couldn't feel them: https://go.shopmy.us/p-6334829. If you want something minimalist these might not be for you aesthetically but the same brand has many platform options and there might be another one you like the look of best. I haven't tried them all but I'm going to venture, based on how comfortable the above were, that any of the open-toe ones will be similarly comfortable: https://go.shopmy.us/p-6334832

I hope you will find something useful in this! Once again, I'm so sorry for the delay. Have a wonderful week and thank you for supporting the newsletter! It means a lot. L x

Thank you! And ugh... it's frustrating, isn't it? Because they are SO gorgeous. I'm not in that season of life that puts up with discomfort though haha. I hope you find a pair that works for you! I will keep sharing my finds! Xx

Oh, and also you have given voice to something I have always called “runaway pinky syndrome” … those damn pinkies, always running off the edge

Hahaha! Tell me about it! All these high-brands making super duper narrow shoes though I feel like the runaway pinky should be celebrated!

It’s not even 10 AM in my world has already been rocked. Thank you for this genius, including acknowledgment that I love looking at my Jil Sander sandals, but every picture… Whatever the opposite of chefs kiss is. 😘

Damn, your comments never miss to put a huge smile on my face! That sucks about the Jil Sander's; really not ideal. Should we forgive them just on account of them being so gorgeous? Place them as an ornament on a shelf perhaps :P ;) Xx
