127. The First Black Friday Sales, Small Brands Opting Out, and the Best Party Pieces.
This is EVERY BODY GETS DRESSED’s weekly edit of the only fashion news worthy of your attention.
The most exciting (and rare) sales are the ones that include new in-season styles, not just garments that have been on the shelves for a while. Heaven Mayhem’s Black Friday sale includes the just-dropped silver Matilde cuff, shell tassel necklace, and maroon drop earrings. Their jewelry book box in textured leopard would be a perfect gift; the whole collection is a gifting treasure trove, as even the buyer gets a gift at checkout.

There’s been a lot of chatter this week about COS’ prices, with people mocking those who would pay $450 for a cashmere sweater from H&M’s cousin. For what it’s worth, we believe COS's quality and fabrics are head and shoulders above those of any other fast-fashion brand, hence why it’s the only one to ever feature in our letter. Our top picks from their new arrivals are below $230: these perfect utility pants, this rounded wool V-neck sweater, this butter yellow triangle scarf, this heavyweight boiled wool zip-up sweater (size up for a more oversized look and to allow layering underneath), and this tailored bottle green wool shirt.
As I readied myself to press send on this newsletter, I received notification that the Moda Operandi designer sale had dropped. As usual with the buy-conscious retailer, the sizes available are limited, but a steadfast filter on my personal favorite brands led me to these highlights: From Jil Sander, this sheath top from their ‘24 runway is now $788, down from $3,150. This JW Anderson rolled-hem cami dress we featured here when it was released is $420, down from $1,050. This Tae Park polka dot skirt-and-top set is now $563, down from $880. This Christopher Esber cashmere and silk dress is $750, down from $1,250. And this casual layered jersey dress from Staud is now $270.
Everlane’s Black Friday sale includes up to 50% off a whole host of everyday basics, including this reliable cashmere shirt in black and red (I’m buying it one size smaller than my usual size for a more fitted look) and this ’90s raglan-sleeve sweater with slubby texture.
Although Black Friday is a well-timed deal heaven, the demands it can place on smaller brands mean some brands choose to opt out. Still Here has shared with their customers that they will be sitting out the occasion. The innovative denim brand has been in the spotlight in recent weeks thanks to Jennifer Lawrence, who was just spotted wearing the sweatshirt in red. Meanwhile, Zoë Kravitz's favorite, the sport jean, will be restocked on November 28.

You want to look festive while still feeling like yourself, and many brands lean too heavily toward the former. Dôen’s Holiday Part 2 collection found a good middle ground: the pieces feature the requisite Christmas lace and beading, but, thanks to classic colors and quality materials, are markedly wearable. We love the Sandrine dress, made from merino wool and featuring a Victorian organza collar, and the romantic elderberry Veda dress, which can be worn for date nights well past the holiday season.
This asymmetrical Effie dress from Staud makes for a versatile holiday party option. I love the way the metallic tulle drapes at the thigh, and can’t help but picture how it would look catching the light at a candle-lit party. Another one that can be worn well beyond New Year’s Eve is the Marais organza-chiffon dress. If you want a party-stopping look, you could consider the brand’s faux Mongolian fur coat in the matching storm grey hue. For a warmer option, the collection also includes a black wool dress with a contrast lace layer.
Kallmeyer launched Resort this week. The Alyse gusset skirt is back in grey silk, with its asymmetric hem that elegantly falls around the ankles as you move. It would work for more formal occasions as well as holiday parties, for example, with this sculptural satin organza shirt or this fluid draped top. The casual Clemence pants are back in compact cotton and pair well with this new superfine mohair knit that stands out from other V-necks with its contrasting ruffle collar.
Liffner’s pre-spring collection introduces brand new silhouettes in pops of red as well as luxurious suede. Our top picks are the pushlock clutch in maroon suede or vintage-effect brown leather, and the lady bag in chocolate suede.

I love the way the metallic tulle drapes at the thigh, and can’t help but picture how it would look catching the light at a candle-lit party. A dress from an older collection, using, I suspect, the same pattern, is 40% off, down to $297, in the just-dropped Moda Operandi sale. If layering isn’t your thing, it’s about to be. St Agni’s new tassel silk mini dress is ideal for styling under your winter knitwear, elevating even the simplest of outfits as the tassels poke out from underneath. You can also try this brushed wide classic belt for a bit of an edge.
Balloon pants were a staple at Alaïa’s SS25 show, sparking a genie pant renaissance, a welcome deviation from the jeans and tailored work trousers. I’m lusting after these tied-at-the-ankle bubble Pearl cotton silk pants by Posse, which pair well with this white tee, different from other baby tees for its viscose fabric that clings to the body. The draping of this Solene top also caught our eye, in black and pink, it can be styled multiple ways, but the holiday season is the perfect excuse for a dramatic train.
