Often, particularly in summer, the best-dressed person in the room is wearing a very simple outfit formula: a top and bottom styled with a bunch of effortlessly layered pieces of jewelry and trinkets. How does such simplicity have such a significant sartorial impact? I always attribute good style, whether it comes from natural flair or savvy intentional styling, to wearing something that combines comfort with expressing your individuality. In the example of the perfect summer outfit formula, the simple top and bottom allow for comfort, while the jewelry stack adds a touch of individuality. This brings me to the topic of today’s newsletter: If you want good style but you don’t have the time to curate an original outfit every day, or you love style but are a bit lazy with it (it’s me! Hi!), building a jewelry stack is the greatest shortcut to achieving great style you’ll ever find.

Looking at the best jewelry stacks I have come across (I shared my favourite creators to follow for inspiration on my IG stories today), I have identified five elements that make up the perfect stack. In today’s newsletter, I discuss each element in detail. I share some of my favourite fashion and fine jewelry brands, as well as providing tips for styling jewelry. I also share every outfit I wore this weekend and how I tailored my jewelry stack to suit each of them.

1. Start with A Versatile Base Piece.

Here I wore a top with a rather conservative shape, Pucci printed pants, and tweed sandals. It all looks very prim and maybe a little bit more classic than what I am used to, so to break it up I wore a ‘messy’ stack, a mix of high and low, colors, and materials. When building a necklace stack from scratch, the starting point is a very good centerpiece. Whilst other pieces in your stack will be interchangeable depending on the season or the outfits you wear, this is the piece that you will rarely take off. As a result, it is essential for this piece to tick these three boxes:
