• Ciao Lucia’s pink embellished pants from last week’s newsletter clearly struck a chord. They now also come in highlighter green, and Siedres’ white sequined low-rise pair is giving them real competition for the coolest pants of the summer.

• Chan Luu's High Summer delivery landed and my wishlist is a happy mess. The techno taffeta shorts now come in two-toned colorways, and the teal pair with the surfer-chick floral print combines the two summer trends I’m gladly surrendering to. This sequined chiffon tunic covers both ends of a vacation plan: nice dinner one night, beach cover-up the next day. The striped and mesh totes do enough for the simplest heatwave outfits.

• In the same surfer-chick register, this floral surfboard pant is easily the most exciting thing High Sport has released since first going viral.

• New pieces hit the Aflalo sale, including my favorite item this week: these butter-yellow sequined silk shorts. The Lolana pant is also half off.

• Almost everything on the Maria de la Orden site is on sale. I have this top and it’s a compliment-magnet.

• Baserange launched its autumn collection and sale in the same week. From the new collection, I like the matching slip top and elastic-waist pants in soft purple crinkle linen. Style with silver statement jewelry and salted hair. To play with sheer layers, the sheer lyocell T-shirt now comes in soft lilac (with many other colors in the sale) with the matching triangle bra underneath. Or layer under this tank. The Pictorial top is back. With adjustable drawstrings and several ways to wear it, it captures what Baserange does best: soft, minimal pieces with utilitarian versatility built in. From the sale, I’d also flag the Shok square top in crinkle linen with exposed contrast seams, another Baserange signature.

• Aritzia’s up-to-50%-off sitewide sale could be the solution to your vacation wardrobe gaps: a jersey tank in a specific pastel color, striped track shorts, and other oddly specific summer pieces. This linen top and this delicate crochet tank stood out to me as pieces that feel more luxe and would look right at home in a TOTEME collection.

• Every summer, when I shop for dresses, I get stuck between two camps. One is all going-out energy, deep V, cutouts, the constant threat of a nip slip. The other goes full prim: ruffles, eyelet, too much fuss. Net-a-Porter has just brought in a batch of new resortwear brands, and Cala de la Cruz seems to land in the middle. Flirty but easy to wear. Everything I wishlisted is under $500, including this printed linen dress, this cutout yellow one, and this strappy mini.

• You might love the gathered sarong skirt look people are wearing with short-sleeve tees and long-sleeve button-downs, but not the part where you have to tie it properly and fuss with it all day. This printed cotton gauze skirt from Staud gets you the same relaxed, wrapped effect without the headache. It also comes in a matcha green.

• The summer shoes I’m most tempted by this week are these raffia-and-leather flats from Andrea Gomez. If you wear more highly saturated colors, go black. If you wear soft pastels, go white: it reflects light and makes those shades appear more luminous. Close behind are Lucasheva’s bejeweled Amélie heeled mules, a Y2K fever dream. • I went into COS to see which new arrivals are as good in person as they are online. This minidress and this one were clear winners, while this one only looks good on the website. This skirt is just as good in person, but in ivory, it is sheer enough that nude underwear is non-negotiable. The contrast-piped satin shirt-and-shorts set has more weight than I expected, which makes it feel more expensive.

• There’s a new LESET tee in town. Launched as part of their June collection, the Milo tee is cut from their new Japanese soft dry cotton jersey with a fluid drape and subtly sheer finish. It’s softer and stretchier than the Margo and a lot lighter.

• Frame low-rise Gray jeans get two limited-edition washes for summer: cotton-candy pink and pale limoncello yellow. Both washes are available in Petite length.

• Jamie Haller is having a private sale. You can only access it via this link and must use the code PRIVATESALE at checkout to get 40% off. Before the sale started, many sizes were already sold out, so I recommend filtering by size. Yesterday, the brand also restocked the leather Walking Sandal in black and launched the Rope Tie pants and cargo shorts. The shorts tap into the relaxed, softly structured silhouette everyone seems to be leaning toward this summer.

• Every morning, my walk back from the gym cuts through Kensington school drop-off, where at least one chic mom is wearing Nili Lotan’s Shon pant. They are the barrel pants to end all barrel pants, with an exaggerated horseshoe shape their fans can’t get enough of. New versions landed with Nili’s new collection: the cotton Shon in dark walnut, the wool Shon and leather Shon in midnight blue, and the jeans in an ash gray wash. Those who own several pairs recommend sizing down. If you’re worried about the full bow-legged effect, the Tribeca barrel is a gentler way in.

• Emme Parsons launched a low-key summer sale over the weekend, and there’s still a decent size run available. I love these.

• Margaux and Alex Mill collaborated on the Selene flat. In red satin, it has high wardrobe equity: a bright accent with a satin finish plays well against summer textures from linen pants to crochet. Margaux also launched its archive sale, with classic styles like the Phoebe and Fonteyn included, and debuted a new sandal silhouette: the Vesta. Think thin, minimal straps and a molded footbed. All pairs are available in narrow, medium, and wide widths.

• A palate cleanser for anyone who has reached their limit with cutesy, colorful pieces: Helmut Lang’s latest arrivals include this dress and this one, for the true ’90s minimalists who are relieved the CBK cosplay frenzy has quieted down.

NOTEWORTHY BEAUTY LAUNCHES

• There are creators whose recommendations I will buy on sight. For haircare, I buy what Abbey Yung tells me. For skincare, I follow ’s lead. For makeup, I listen to Julia Fittro and Katie Jane Hughes. Katie especially: I have learned so much from her that I am close to owning every product KJH Brand has released. This week’s order was the new Fresh Start brush soap, which forced me to confront how long I had gone without washing my brushes. I also added the Prism lip crayon in Mirage and the Precision sculpture stylo in Etch to my cart, which unlocked a free brush at checkout.

• Loopha, the bath-and-body-focused sister brand to The Ordinary, launched a Hand + Body Water Cream. Where The Ordinary is strictly fragrance-free, Loopha is built around fragrance layering. This is a product category I care about a lot in summer, when all my perfumes suddenly feel too heavy or formal and I switch to body sprays and creams. They sent me Oud + Amber: it’s light, almost gel-like, and the scent actually lingers.

• Medik8 sent me their latest launch, the Exo-PDRN Prismatic+ serum, a rejuvenation-focused product inspired by polynucleotide treatments. I need a few weeks before I can give it a proper verdict, but the bar is high: their Crystal Retinal (strength 6 is enough for me) and the C-Tetra Luxe serum are two products I have been repurchasing for close to a decade.

THINGS I BOUGHT, RETURNED, AND GOT GIFTED IN MAY

• Reformation restocked pieces from the Courtney Grow collab. I bought the crochet top and I keep finding new ways to style it. My favorite is over a button-down. I went to the store to check out the Aqualune sequined dress, but they didn’t have it. From the main line, I tried on the Sandy shorts, which I had long coveted, and the fabric was disappointing and staticky.

• Rue Sophie sent me this fluid lyocell pale yellow button-down. I have been wearing it a lot, untucked over my cream Apiece Apart pants (pant of the summer for me thus far), with and without the crochet top layered over it. The shirt is very oversized. If you want it less so, size down.

• Having had no luck with the quality of their pants and accessories in the past, I cautiously ordered three St.Agni tops from their ongoing sale. The organic cotton slim scoop tank turned out to be just perfect: naturally stretchy, comfortable, not too long, with a sexy neckline that seamlessly conceals a scoop neck bralette. I will be picking up more colors. The soft jersey slim scoop tank is also an excellent tank; it is longer, and the fabric is compressive. A very good purchase if that’s what you’re looking for, but I already found my perfect scoop tank match in the first one. The glass-beaded mesh top looked sensational and had the perfect cut, but proved a little itchy around the straps (my skin is hypersensitive). I kind of wish I had kept it to layer over a loose white tee. With the refund credit, I may give their pants another go and try these tailored track pants and adjustable palazzo pants, both currently half off.

• I bought Tibi’s Stella cargo shorts. And I now get the hype about the crispy nylon. They are heavenly. They are designed to hang below your natural waist, and the size 0 fits me perfectly. I was watching the brand’s latest masterclass on YouTube while eating dinner last night, and Amy (the founder) was talking about their use of synthetics and explaining how intentional they are about using them to create modern silhouettes. She says, “I love a good linen, but sometimes natural fibers hang in a way that looks a little mature.” She goes on to talk about the family-owned Italian mills that produce the synthetic fabrics they use. The crispy nylon is as light as air and doesn’t stick to my legs as the Reformation shorts did. I now want everything crispy nylon (a fair few are in the sale): the pant version of my shorts, the pull-on joggers, the Liam blazer, and the tailored trousers. I styled the shorts in a video yesterday:

• A.Emery kindly gifted me the Harnick suede bowling bag. It’s my first large handbag (you can fit four laptops and your gym stuff in there), and not having to Tetris my belongings inside a purse feels like I have had a third lung grafted. I can’t wait to take it to the airport tomorrow.

• I got blessed by the resale gods and found an old version of The Garment skirted pants I have been raving about, for £72 on Vinted. I’m impressed by the quality (full disclosure: I can’t attest to the quality of the new ones because this old version is made of a different fabric). I’m sad I can’t take it on my holiday tomorrow because it needs altering (it is looooooooong), but I will show you when I get back next week.

• My T-shirt collection was looking sad in wintry shades, so I got a few new ones in bright(ish) colors. I got three Mini T-shirts from Uniqlo. I got them in different sizes so I could advise; if you want a proper baby tee fit, get your usual size. I find sizing up one size more comfortable. I wear an XS in this video and an S in this one. I also got another Margo tee from LESET in the Bleuet color, a more muted version of what they call Leset Blue, which is the color Harry Styles wears. I love it so much and will be getting it in Créme next. You can see how the XS looks on my frame at the start of the video below. Speaking of celebs’ LESET favorites, Jeremy Allen White was spotted three days ago in the James striped polo, and Jennifer Lawrence wore the James mock-neck cardigan earlier this week.

THE BEST NEWNESS, SALES, AND RESTOCKS OF THE WEEK

• Call me selfish: I added these Ciao Lucia silk and cotton voile embellished pants to cart before sharing them here. Between the mirror appliqués and the bubblegum pink shade, these have the makings of the next It pant. There’s a dress made of the same fabric. If only my pasty complexion could handle the heat. If you’re going to be near any body of water this summer, the first four pages of their new arrivals are worth a look. There are white-embroidered cotton poplin romantic pieces aplenty and a collab with Larroudé on six pairs of colorful sequin-embellished or beaded sandals.

• J.Crew’s new arrivals include a similar crochet tank that’s half the price of the Reformation one. Sticking with the crochet vibes, this sweater tank comes in really cool shades of green, blue, and crushed berry. Pair with shorts: these long boxers with Oxford stripes or these shell track shorts from their latest collab with lacrosse brand Relax. And I know you guys will go crazy for these sandals.

• I’m loving this new silk organza plaid skirt from Frame. If you’ve been wanting to play around with sheerness, this 100% silk balloon blouse is great for adding dimension to your outfit when thrown over a simple white tank.

• You sold out the Odissi crochet flat that was in the newsletter last week. If you were drawn to it and missed out, check out Margaux’s latest arrivals, which introduced new styles in cotton macramé: the best-selling Fonteyn Jane gets a remake in supersoft crochet and they introduce the brand-new Luna, a Mary Jane with a romantic bow tie, in the same material. If you love the woven look but this feels too high-maintenance, get the Woven Paz ballet flats.

• Jamie Haller releases the neoprene Walking Sandal in camel. The Balloon pants are back in stock in black and turmeric. The petite length always sells out first.

• Last time I checked in with the brand, I got a “never say never”, so I’ve been watching out for a restock of Aflalo’s Lolana pants. I consider them the OG balloon pants that launched a trend. They’re back in the semi-sheer viscose in black, ivory, Prussian blue, and beige. For silk and opacity, check Lolana’s big sisters: the Elena and Sigur pants. Also, Sarah Pidgeon from Love Story wore Aflalo’s silver cuffs on Jimmy Fallon last night, so if you have $16,000 to drop on them, you will now be on the waitlist.

• To those in the know, nothing compares to the craftsmanship of Marsèll footwear. Their new lightly worn caramel suede Mandolo Mocassino loafer dropped on La Garçonne.

• It’s been hit after hit since the start of spring for Comme Si, the maker of everyone’s favorite button-downs. First came the silk bias slip dress (a full size run is still available on Net-A-Porter if your favorite color has sold out), then the Deep-V poplin shirt, and this week we got the new mandarin-collar tunic. With its elongated silhouette, it makes for the chicest beach coverup.

• Donni launches Part I of their Summer collection. It revolves around lightweight open-knit textures. I like the knit shell in cloud and the knit long-sleeve in apricot.

• Kallmeyer launched Pre-Fall. Daniella Kallmeyer imagined her city girl vacationing in Morocco or India this summer. The result is crinkly sheer fabrics, raw-edge hems, and fluid twill dresses contrasted with crisp windbreakers in earthy tones. The pop of color is a delightful muted sky blue. I love the simplicity of the Marguerite blouse in starched poplin paired with the matching full skirt. If you want to show more skin, the Millie minidress in trapped silk (it looks ultra-sharp with the taffeta jacket) or the sheer linen gauze shirt-and-skirt look.

• While the sale continues, TOTEME is bringing out the next selection of Pre-Fall 2026. The classic monogram is subtle and as chic as ever in a tonal white cotton-and-silk strappy midi dress and knee-length skirt. If you like wearing all white, these will add just the right amount of texture to keep the outfit from looking too flat. The flawless double-pleat pant (I have them in a fluid viscose fabric) gets a summer makeover in linen and a cropped length.

• Tibi added new styles to the sale. You can now take 60% off Resort and Spring. Of the new additions, I think these are the strongest: the tucked-pleat skirt (see it styled by Gabriella here), the pea pod viscose plissé pieces (see the sleeveless tunic styled by Asta here), and the pinched-pleat dress (see it styled by me once I have paid for my Bad Bunny tickets). Meanwhile, new Fundamentals are available for pre-order as of yesterday: the camouflage twill Tuck jeans that closed Tibi’s Spring runway show in 2024 are back, and the twill Sid pant—a favorite with a little stretch and a velvety feel—gets a new colorway in a soft Ring 3 blue grey.

• Jude, the maker of the sexiest shoes, releases two new styles: the Gild, a peep-toe mule with a sculptural heel, and, my favorite, the Lucille wedge, a minimal heeled sandal with a T-strap that comes in suede or white python leather (absolute filth).

• There’s an extra 20% off all sale pieces at Posse if you’re looking to complete your summer wardrobe. The Australian brand now ships to the US with no duties or import fees. I like the Lindie pants.

• Sometimes I remember to browse THE OUTNET (ten years ago, 90% of my wardrobe came from there) and get reminded that if you’re lucky you’ll find last season’s stars— TOTEME’s embroidered tulle shirt, Tory’s silk-trimmed skirt, Ulla Johnson’s Violeta chiffon dress, and the whole TWP collection—sitting there 85% off.

• In last week’s newsletter, I buried the lede on the only swimwear brand I’ve shopped from for the past three years. This really is the season of swimwear shopping, so I’m sharing more details. I want my bikini tops to be supportive, and I have long given up on ready-to-wear brands for that. If you find swimwear shopping a headache (who doesn’t?), narrow it down to swimwear specialists. Monday Swimwear makes supportive tops in sizes ranging from Petite Petite to Very Very Voluptuous. This season they introduced a new size Small Bust Large Cup to fit people who measure 28-34" under bust and DD–G cup. Until now, I have been wearing the Capri top and Tulum top. They also make bottoms with a wide range of coverage. I like mine super duper skimpy. My mum rolls her eyes. I get the Palma thong and always buy the matching sarong or skirt for extra modesty. Returns are super easy.

• Attention cropped-pants fans and short girls who buy them to avoid alterations (hi!): La Ligne just launched their #1 best-seller, endlessly written-about, everyone’s favorite bias pant, the Colby, in a new cropped length!

• OSSOU is having a sale: 40% off a small selection of great pieces. Since most pieces are butter yellow, I want everything. For some it’s a trend, for me it’s the one light color I can reliably fall back on. The detail on this button-down and the volume on this tee are so good.

• Liffner opened pre-orders for the Pushlock clutch. Fun colorways like the turquoise suede or pink lizard will ship mid-June.

• Teal, aquamarine, and other bright blues are having a moment, and Reformation got the memo. The latest drop has mermaid hues washed over dresses (halterneck mini, strappy maxi, and silk midi), a silk two-piece, a ‘90s-fit silk shirt, and even wedge thong sandals. I spy the popular shade in the highly anticipated Courtney Grow x Reformation collab dropping on Monday (I’ll be shopping!). These pants are a washable (and undoubtedly lesser-quality) version of the new Aflalo balloon pants.

• Started after I sent last week’s sale roundup, Tibi’s End of Season sale continues. You can take up to 40% off everyday pieces with a structured sporty feel, like the active knit T-shirt, the bonded viscose belted tank top, the sweatshirting sleeveless top, and the anorak Italian nylon skirt. For the evening, I love the sheer wool gauze tee or sheer wool gauze shirt over a black triangle bra and this pea-pod crinkled slip dress (see below). • Jamie Haller’s fans get spoiled with many new arrivals. My picks are the silk Arc pants in sky blue and the high-V tee in white stripes. I’d wear them together.

• LESET Margo long-sleeve baseball tee gets a restock. Wear it with a silk midi skirt to emulate Zoë Kravitz. We also have Kyoto shorts and Kyoto utility pants now. Their sale is still on with up to 60% off.

• Moda Operandi received these super cute Odissi crocheted flats and they instantly sold out in most sizes. There are more sizes of the red ones here.

• Negative Underwear introduces the Sieve cutout bra and matching thong in new cream, cobalt, and lilac colorways. The micro mesh Sieve fabric has built up a cult following among bra-haters. just tested Substack’s favorite T-shirt bras and Negative’s Whipped Non-Wire bra came up in her Top 3. She says it looks sexy and feels like wearing nothing at all. The Whipped fabric is probably not ideal if you need a lot of support. I need to find the strength to conduct the same investigation for people who wear an E cup or equivalent.

• Aflalo’s Summer 2026 collection has arrived. Heirs to the cult Lolana pants are two new balloon pants: Sigur in lightweight silk shantung and Elena in heavyweight ivory silk. These can be added to the list of alternatives to my Maria McManus satin basketball shorts. There’s also a jade semi-sheer cotton-silk button down. I love how Leandra Medine styled it, and apparently so did a lot of people because it is nearly sold out.

• Ancient Greek Sandals came out with new styles and this Esther Beads sandal with a jelly sole and beaded ties stands out. There’s a version without beads in a vibrant green, too. I know I said I was scared of sandals that wrap around the ankles but then I saw wrap hers around the bottom of her pant leg and I changed my mind.

• Just in: Veronica Beard newness, and as always, I zero in on the jackets. I visualize coffee runs in this and business meetings in this, with wide-leg pleated pants and heels.

• Alex Mill Summer Chapter 2 doubles down with heatwave pieces that feel like wearing nothing in linen, cotton voile, and ramie. This baby blue lace top is cute.

• Rachel Comey had a second Pre-Fall drop and, as someone who is deep into a rabbit hole of 2003 summer fashion—muted pastels, sheerness, and layered necklines—this dress is all I want to wear this summer. I’m also here for this printed version of the long surfboard shorts.

• And finally, J.Crew Summer is here. I would get the Montauk sweater tank in cream, teal, or lemonade and perhaps a size up for a more relaxed fit. For really hot days when wearing anything is unbearable, go for this ‘90s misty-blue slip dress or this cerulean 100% linen halterneck one. The pants people buy as a LESET Kyoto dupe (and end up liking better than the OG) get new colorways. I like smoky thistle. Speaking of dupe, this fun, bright red cashmere V-neck polo is a very close iteration of Guest In Residence’s Pele polo, and these are clearly a take on Donni’s sold-out gingham taffeta pants (except you can machine wash the J.Crew version).

Tomorrow’s my birthday. I’ll be turning 37, feeling happier than I ever have. It is true what they say: if you’re lucky, it keeps getting better.

2025 was tricky; I was blocked creatively, I went offline (which you can’t afford to do when your livelihood comes from a newsletter), and disappeared into myself as I navigated a year of intense shedding. For lack of a better phrase, I “did the work” and came out the other side. Among other things, I’m back online. I just opened Substack chat, another place where you can reach me and hear from each other. This year so far has handed me a deep sense of peace and purpose. It hasn’t been perfect; I painfully cut ties with a parent (and by extension, my youngest sibling) in January. I carry a lot of guilt about not being able to show up for my girlfriends as much as I used to and about still being too harsh on my younger sisters. I’m closing in on two decades of struggles with body image. I stay up at night beating myself up for the times I can’t keep up with the 2x-newsletters-per-week cadence. But that’s where the beauty of getting older lies, despite all of it, and, in a way I would never have been able to in my twenties, I wake up every day thinking, “life is so wonderful right now.”

Every year, when my birthday week rolls around, I’ll convince myself that I’m deserving of any spontaneous purchase. As if my budget had let itself out the door. It happened at Frame on Sunday, where I went to review low-rise jeans for you guys and came out with this delicious cropped trench jacket. It happened again while I was editing this newsletter, when I ordered three tops from the (now over) St.Agni sale. (I’m always skittish about featuring this brand, so I can slap a Research Purposes label on that one). There will be more damage done before the week’s over. I’m trying to replicate the magic of the TOTEME mohair tank (mentioned below, it’s on sale) without the high-maintenance fabric, so my card is coming out again once this newsletter is in your inboxes. That Frame trench was a ‘F*ck Yeah, I look good!’, a feeling so rare to me that it earns the expletive. Surely a girl can get away with that on her birthday?

• The TOTEME sale is SO good, if I do say so myself, as a TOTEME super fan. Annoyingly, like many of this weekend’s sales, it’s only available in the US. This poppy red trench coat is $570 off. I have and love this mohair knit tank top, which also comes in cream. See it worn and styled (by me) here. I reach for it anytime an outfit needs texture, and the below-the-hip length is perfect with shorts and skirts. The small brand has a very tight selection of perfected pieces. It’s their shorts I have my eye on: the mini belted Grier, and, at the other end of the spectrum, the oversized fleece shorts.

• I already reported on it two weeks ago, but the &Daughter sale has gotten bigger and better with new pieces added and discounts up to 50% off. Will I use my birthday carte blanche to buy this pale yellow cashmere cardigan before the week ends? My spidey senses say yes.

• Dôen launches Summer Chapter 1. The collection brings striking ankle-length 100% silk dresses: the fully sheer, floral Zephirine dress looks very flirty, the Luciane dress evokes a romantic vintage nightgown, and the bright emerald Amari dress has a kid’s version, so you can match with your mini. If this all feels too fussy, the collection also brings holiday packing go-tos like the June top and the Traveler top in ditsy prints and gingham. The Suzette babydoll dress looks like it was borrowed from Sabrina Carpenter’s stage wardrobe. In the best way.

• Alex Mill adds six striped colorways to the cotton-cashmere rollneck Taylor cardigan. The 131 reviews, averaging 4.9 stars, speak to some serious repeat-buying loyalty.

• I have two TOTEME bullet points in this newsletter because, in addition to the private sale, they’ve also released an exclusive capsule with Net-a-Porter, along with a campaign fronted by iconic 90s Scottish model Kirsty Hulme. Highlights from the capsule include a cornflower button-down, suede thong sandals, and minimal cotton poplin pieces, like this top and this dress, that hang unlike anything else in this category, courtesy of TOTEME’s pattern-making and eye for detail.

• Does TKEES operate at the highest level of craftsmanship? No. Does buying their flip-flops mean buying them twice? Also no. In true high-low wardrobe fashion, there are decisions to be made at the start of every season about where you will spend your shopping budget. And if a pair of leather flip-flops is where you’d like to save to put more towards, say, a supportive, quick-drying, confidence-boosting bikini (I’ve bought all my swimwear from this brand for the past three years), it may well be a smart decision. And TKEES is a good place to start. The simple Lily flip-flop from the nude collection—with more shades than some foundations’ ranges—has served me well since last year. This scrunchie pair has a Tibi feel. This squared-toe, thinned-strap one reminds me of Emme’s. And these ballet flats look similar to Tory’s red Mary Jane, the one that went viral during the Met Gala via Erin, Tory’s PR assistant.

• Black-tie wedding guest dresses for $300 or less: Rue Sophie put together a convincing edit of occasion pieces. This periwinkle dress with a stole is spectacular. Many of the others—this pintuck organza corset midi or this cotton shirred cami dress—can be reworn well beyond wedding season.

• Still Here is restocking the Sport Jean today at 11 AM ET. That’s the low-rise one with no waistband and drawstring toggles at both hems, as seen on Zoë Kravitz.

• Rachel Comey’s Pre-Fall 2026 collection contains styling multitudes. The Kemps top and Vela skirt offer a take on crinkled fabric, this time in 100% crushed silk. The Etch skirt is constructed from vertical panels and raw-edged seams. The Soliton vest is utility at its finest.

• House of Dagmar did it again. A striking collection with flowy dresses—this chiffon cape midi, this silk-blend kaftan that looks great over trousers, and this sheer v-neck maxi (there’s a top version with cap sleeves)— and great outerwear, like this almond cream field jacket. If you’ve never checked out their evergreen denim collection, it’s worth your attention. The brand makes shopping for what you want really straightforward with a fit guide. It’s no-nonsense: they make one of everything (straight, cropped, baggy, etc.), and each one is very good. I found this video showing my three favorite styles worn: the cropped denim in vintage blue, the baggy fit in white, and the straight leg denim in light blue.

• As they continue to push the envelope with eye-catching designs, Ossou is slowly creeping toward the top of my personal favorites list. This week, they dropped really compelling new pieces. I’m becoming more diligent about writing down gaps in my wardrobe as I get dressed, and lately that list reads: “Shrug! Cropped denim jacket! Cropped cardi? Cropped jacket!” I immediately recognized this cropped trench, which I might have looked past before, as a must-have. The long/classic version is great, too. This knitted top with knotted ribbon straps and a split hem at the back is a perfect day-to-nighter. I love how they style this cinched denim button-down. Quirk-lovers: don’t miss these jeans.

• LESET’s May collection is built on sheerness and almost-neon brights, sometimes combining both. Sheer pieces come in a blue-gray that seems pulled from the spring 1998 Armani palette: a scoop-neck tank, a sleeveless maxi dress, and crop pants in linen gauze. On the colorful side, bread-and-butter styles like the Kyoto pant and the Margo tee get a new chartreuse yellow and carnation orange. This collection also brings a restock of the Rio capri, the closest ‘dupe’ for The Row’s sold-out Coleta capri.

• Soeur is running a ‘Private’ Sale: up to 30% off their latest collection. It includes this dress I have and love (you haven't seen me wear it yet because I would like it shortened, but I've been putting off my trip to the tailor). The cotton is super lightweight. A great one for when it gets scorching. This other dress also looks great. These pleated poplin trousers and these tailored slubbed cotton trousers were my favorite pants I tried on in the store recently. They are both oversized and pack some serious slouch. I also liked this sheer lilac cardigan and top twin-set.

• FFORME’s new summer styles bring structure—this sculpted silk and cotton top, this A-line maxi skirt that floats away from the body, this curved waist tank dress, and the Romi tee in scuba jersey— and soft elegance with this cream asymmetrical maxi dress. Stylists repeatedly return to the brand to dress their A-list clients: this week Daisy Edgar-Jones, dressed by Dani Michelle, wore the metallic cotton Winslow jacket and matching Joey dress.

• Apiece Apart launched its summer collection. The Bari Crop trousers—I have worn them 7 out of 7 days this week—get a chambray rebrand. I like to see a crop button-down for us short-torso people. This one comes with a button loop on the sleeve, so they stay rolled up for longer than the first 5 minutes of the day. I also love the Lina scoop neck with lantern sleeves and the Olda multi-colored stripe polo. The rib trim at the hem and sleeves on the latter is clever. It gives it that modern blouson vibe, which will be a lot more flattering than most polo tops.

• Guest In Residence launches its summer collection. Highlights are: 1. The fine stripe Showtime shirt and matching fine stripe tank available in a range of soft pastels. A modern, surf-club version of a classic twin-set, if you will, 2. The tried-and-true collegiate striped polo. I’d pick the long-sleeved one first because I tie it around my waist when I’m wearing a t-shirt, but the short-sleeved striped rugby is cute, too. 3. My personal pick: the layered tee. Every time I come across a good layered tee, I include it in the newsletter. I know that, like me, many subscribers don’t have time to “style an outfit” every single day. On most days, we reach for comfort and simplicity. But not all simple pieces are created equal. When I reach for a structured pant and a tee like this one, I look dressed, dressed. This is the most luxe version of the layered tee: the top layer is a cotton-cashmere blend, and the underlayer is a cotton-silk blend that feels light and soft on the skin.

• I struggle to get these sheer organza pants from The Garment out of my head. There’s a size 8 in white here. It’s in black here and in pink here.

• I have been getting DMs about the satin cream “basketball” shorts I wore in my Madrid outfit roundup. They are old Maria McManus. Here are some similar alternatives I found (or that some of you suggested): these from Reformation for the exact same fabric, color, and length, these monogrammed ones from TOTEME for the same vibe and the elastic waistband, these from Alfie with a more straight-leg silhouette, and these from The Frankie Shop, which will be less structured.

• In more summer cashmere, Lisa Yang launched its new collection, including the Hayda top with its rolled scoop neck and the matching Henli pocket shorts, or the soft sky cashmere Rubie tee (relaxed, cropped, and widened silhouette) and matching Charlotta skirt. I love that product pages include weight and gauge, so you know exactly what to expect from the knitwear you order online.

• Nili Lotan just started its annual archive sale. The best-selling Shon barrel pants are now $113, down from $375. Much of the brand’s coveted denim, like the Otis Jean, is also under $130. If you define your style as '70s-inspired, the 7 pages are worth a browse. You’ll find pieces like this ruffled silk blouse and paisley jacket—I’m more ‘90s-leaning, but I’m tempted—70% off. If there’s a time of year to shop Nili Lotan, it’s now.

• In the past eight days, Donni launched Spring Part IV and Part V. The first drop brought us cozy Eco-Terry—butter yellow stripe shorts and cornflower blue crop pants— and technical nylon—zip pants that convert into shorts and a sage nylon anorak (look past the functional aspect, this is a summer layering gem). The second drop is 100% linen: the same crop stripe pants in linen (the piece I’d personally buy if only for the color) and a new linen shirt with self-covered knot buttons.

Madrid Airport is unlike other European airports. It has the chaotic, vibrant energy of a global hub. We wait in a taxi queue that stretches the length of the terminal. Against my local friends’ advice: order an Uber. Taxis and Uber operate on a flat €30 rate to take you into the city.

• TOTEME’s latest collection just dropped, and it has so much going for it. A fluid viscose flute-hem dress and flute-hem skirt to have a ‘90s summer in. Cotton wardrobe cornerstones revisited: a jersey tee and jersey shorts upgraded with a tie-waist detail or easy oversized pants with a drawstring hem. My favorites are this linen blazer with the same raw edge detail I cherish on the pants I bought from the last collection, and these balloon trousers with a wide waistband.

• Dorsey has two exciting summer launches that make you want to be bejeweled on the beach. On Tuesday, the Floating collection: their eternity necklaces and drop earrings reimagined without the silver or gold setting—just stone on skin. Available in diamonds and moissanite. Today, the playful Enamel collection with dainty strands of pastel-colored enamel and moissanite. I love the anklets.

• Coucou Intimates restocked the Rina Long-Sleeve, and this time, they made enough to last until I could report it. It was restocked in white, black, baby pink, and gray. I ordered it in white because I needed to cross the t’s (no pun intended) on my research: I had only tried the short-sleeved version, and I didn’t like it. After agonizing over which size to order and watching every TikTok try-on, I ordered it in my usual size: WRONG. Sizing down is where it’s at if you want it to look as it does below and as it was intended.

• Margaux released a wraparound version of the Palermo sandals. I love wrap sandals on others, but avoid them around my own short, muscular calves. If that rings true, the classic version has a dainty ankle strap. Both have a very sexy sandal silhouette. I’m doing research for a nineties-themed newsletter for paid subscribers and got this barely-there kitten heel pair in burgundy patent leather. I got a size 36.5, my true size. The design is narrow, even in the regular width, so if you’re on the fence about buying the wide width, go for it. They look sexy, and true to form for Margaux shoes, they are incredibly comfortable. You’ll have to pry these off my feet come fall.

• If you liked the big, bold fringe of Louise Trotter’s first Bottega runway, you should consider this COS fringe top. I went to try it in-store, and it looked so much bigger/rounder than it does online. It’s one of those pieces for which you can’t really get the size wrong, but you could size up to get closer to the Bottega fit. There’s a more subdued dress with the same fringe. Unrelated, but I also like this one. It looks a lot like this season’s most expensive dresses.

• &Daughter, the father-daughter-founded brand that made it into every editor’s and discerning customer’s closet, is having a sale. Winter wardrobe pillars like the Caragh chunky crewneck, Balla slouchy V-neck, and Innes slouch crewneck are up to 30% off. The sale also includes warmer-weather knitwear in spring colorways: the Edie polo in a pale cherry blossom pink, the Ada crewneck cardigan I wore in last week’s newsletter in a moss green, the Tierna fine merino tank in tomato red, and the Emer cashmere t-shirt in lemon lime. To be honest, the whole sale page is worth a browse.

• Still Here restocked the Cool Jeans and the Cool Shorts in the Classic Blue wash.

• Tall and struggling to find jeans that fit? AYR heard out their customers above 5’9 and made the Long length of their best-selling Secret Sauce jeans even longer. Pass this along to your tall friends; they’ll be grateful. If you miss your jeans in summer, the brand also released the Big Salad jeans in a new light wash cut from weightless Italian cotton denim.

• I have said it before and will say it again: no brand cares about solving its customers’ wardrobe headaches like Tibi. Look at the Winslow active knit pants: they have the comfort and nonchalance of sweatpants and the luster of evening pants, with a snap at the hem so you can switch from sneakers to a heel. I’m a type-A shopper, and I get annoyed that more brands don’t have buying guides like the Denim Style guide they just came out with: a page that brings every silhouette together in one place so you can compare by rise, shape, wash, and more. I want this for tees from every brand that sells more than two styles. They’re also one of the few brands that use synthetics with design—not cost-cutting—intent. To bring together structure and ease, they keep going back to nylon and adding new pieces cut from the technical material each season. There’s an edit of these pieces here. The star is the nylon Zeppelin pant. Great to pack for your summer travels, too, as they’ll come out of your suitcase looking the same as when they went in.

• Tory Burch launched a summer collection. The brand iterated on hero pieces from last summer, and as a result, we get another compelling tank top with a flower pin, hand-embroidered mirrorwork on a Bradshaw-esque shoulder bag, and the flared skirt in a striking peacock-blue silk dupioni. In new territory, you’ll find a flirty sequined mesh mini dress, a gladiator heeled sandal with ‘70s vibes, and the looooooong crocheted tote that perfectly finished every outfit on Tory’s Spring runway.

• For a similar elongated bag look and a more palatable price tag, the Anine Bing hobo raffia bag was just released in new pastel colors. Also, the Quinn blazer (my favorite boxy blazer) + Bryce tailored shorts + Lea silk top in butter yellow = a summer tailoring wet dream.

• Only Veronica Beard could make embellished denim cool and desirable season after season. There is a new embellished denim jacket, cropped to sit perfectly over the matching straight-leg jeans.

• Net-A-Porter released an exclusive capsule with Khaite. My favorite pieces are the satin-twill Tia dropped waist dress (also in an off-white cotton-and-silk blend) and the Rommi crinkled satin wrap dress. If you’re tempted by the $680 satin bralette, buy this $85 silk one instead.

• Extreme Cashmere is the Brooke Callahan of knitwear: something about the colors and how boldly they go together scratches an itch in my brain. Take a look. Their latest campaign captures five families from different generations at a bowling alley in Seoul. Their latest release was an athleisure capsule—silhouettes inspired by Pilates and '80s aerobics reinterpreted in cashmere, with soft neutrals like camel and bright accents like tomato red and oleander pink. The question of what to work out in when you hate synthetics is one I get asked over and over again. These fetching cashmere biker shorts might be the answer if your budget allows.

• Do you have a male Gemini (hit or miss) or Cancer (lucky you) in your life for whom you still don’t have a birthday gift? Jamie Haller launched the best-selling Penny loafer in men’s sizes. If the gift is for yourself, the brand restocked the Baggy Painter Crop in Ecru and launched the Caftan mini dress.

I just got back from five days in Madrid, the first of a few reconnaissance trips to the city I'm considering making my permanent home after 19 years in London. The warmth of the city blew us away, and we’re starting to understand why proud locals say "de Madrid al cielo": once you've experienced Madrid, the only thing above it is heaven. Prior to the trip, I went to Intimissimi to try on their silk bras. I had wanted one I could wear “as a top” for some time (a recent send from gave me the encouragement I needed). I tried on all their silk bras: the Sofia balconette, the Bellissima padded push-up, the Tiziana lace plunge, and the Emma triangle bra. I bought the latter, despite it not having the most coverage, because it was the least lingerie-like. It looks identical to the bra in the Jil Sander SS26 campaign currently plastered outside of my front door, but it’s a tenth of the price. The bra was a perfect match for another recent addition to my wardrobe: the &Daughter crewneck Ada cardigan that I got in lilac as part of my renewed effort to wear anything other than brown, navy, and black. Just before my trip, I also received the Apiece Apart Bari crop trousers and Spa pleat pants (which, in a rare stroke of genius, I chose in cream), but these are so good they deserve their own deep dive, styling video, etc. Incoming.

While in Madrid, I bought the Gimaguas Nicole pants from their shop in the Salamanca neighborhood and explained to my boyfriend that this is “essentially a boring purchase” since all I wear to go out in the evening is a uniform of low-rise black pants and a low-cut top, so there’s no suspense about whether this purchase will pay off. The other two purchases I came close to making were the Cordera sarouel pants, which are as outrageously good as I suspected, and an electric-blue trench from Japanese brand Nicholson & Nicholson that I can’t find anywhere online. I had a nagging feeling not to go ahead with these purchases, despite being completely enamored with both. I couldn’t quite pinpoint it until I returned to a freezing-cold flat in London and found out from three different specialists that I had no choice but to replace my 16-year-old boiler. That nagging feeling was my future self letting me know there could be no spontaneous purchases for a while.

First empty from my trip: Glossier You fragrance. This is a favorite among people who don’t like strong smells ( raves about it). I used it as a first layer to make my sweet florals punchier and more peppery. But I have to say the most satisfying part of this scent was finally finishing and binning it. Another empty was my latest tube of Medik8 Crystal Retinal (I must have bought over 20 of them by now). It’s been three months since I gave up on tret for good. I have no regrets. The tube I finished was strength 10, and for the next one, I’m going back to strength 6, which I think suits me better. This brings me back to the most important lesson I’ve learned about skincare: stronger doesn’t always mean better. I learned the hard way. The last empty was my C-Tetra Luxe serum, the only vitamin C I bother with because it’s made from tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a form of vitamin C that is stable and doesn’t oxidize after a few weeks. It doesn’t break me out or irritate my skin, but when I use it, my skin looks more radiant and healthy.

• Burberry’s collaboration with swimwear brand Hunza G dropped. The capsule features four of Hunza G’s most popular silhouettes: the Tyler two-piece, the Domino swimsuit, the Faye one-piece, and the Devyn coverup (which you can wear as a skirt or a strapless top). Every piece is made from the brand’s Original Crinkle fabric, trimmed in Burberry check, and comes with a matching scrunchie. Everything is one size, stretching to fit US 2 through 14, which is why Hunza G became a go-to pregnancy swimwear brand: the crinkles expand and snap back with your body. I have worn mine, from their collab with , since the summer of 2016. The material is a textured, ultra-stretch seersucker-like fabric that requires more than 9 million stitches per garment to produce. I toured the factory that manufactures their swimwear a few years ago while developing collections for another brand. Each machine runs continuously, producing 6.6 billion stitches a day. The brand first launched in the ‘80s in London, with its biggest cultural moment in 1990, when Julia Roberts wore a Hunza mini dress in Pretty Woman. In 2015, British creative director Georgiana Huddart relaunched the brand. The campaign for the Burberry collaboration features Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley and model Alva Claire, and it is stunning. The Devyn worn as a top with the Tyler bikini bottom is my favorite look from the collection, and I’m obsessed with the appearance of Burberry’s Margate raffia bag in the campaign. The capsule label reimagines the Burberry knight as a seahorse, which is a cute detail. • This spring, Comme Si graced us with small but mighty newness. First, this contrast-trim silk bias slip dress: minimal in silhouette but not in color. You can choose it in deep red, chartreuse, lilac, cream, or bronze. This week, they added a new crisp poplin Deep V shirt. It would make a hyper-chic bikini cover-up.

• Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lawrence, and a newly engaged Harry Styles were spotted wearing LESET’s Margo tee in the past month. All chose it in white, and Harry layered it under the electric blue color. I’m wearing mine a lot these days, taking notes for an upcoming extensive T-shirt review for paid subscribers. Margo, which runs true to size, is among the strongest contenders so far. My favorite thing about this T-shirt is the slightly kicked-out sleeves.

• For Mother’s Day, DÔEN has made a limited-edition gift set that includes the Gisela robe, Reverie eye mask, and the large Quince pouch, all rendered in an antique hand-painted tulip print from the Liberty archive.

• Alex Mill launched Summer Chapter I. New styles include a cool tailored linen jacket available in off-white, navy, and bright hibiscus pink. The matching trousers are mid-rise and relaxed through the leg. There’s also a cotton jersey polo dress with rugby stripes. Last week, the brand also launched an enticing bucket bag (I love it in red).

• From the latest summer collection of her cashmere brand Guest In Residence, these are the pieces Gigi Hadid is actually wearing (and has been spotted in several times): the layered striped rugby, the cashmere-cotton polo, the track jacket, the popcorn stitch sweater tee, the top-rated signature oversized crew, and the sculpted cardigan.

• Looking for a good, truly oversized, truly boxy short-sleeved shirt and an excellent T-shirt that isn’t cotton? I would get both from Scandi brand Filippa K’s latest summer collection. The oversized shirt is extremely well-cut and crisp, and the Elena tee is made of 100% fluid lyocell and comes in 9 colors (I like the laurel green).

• The Frame Gray low-rise jeans have been restocked again, this time in every wash plus a new one called Unknown, which is a light wash with subtle contrast. You cannot get enough of these jeans, and I get it, because the way they sit on the body is what people want to wear right now. Frame now has three true low-rise styles. The Gray is a wide-leg flare in rigid denim. The Saturday is a straight leg, also rigid. The Rodeo hugs the hips and thighs and then breaks into a true bootcut, and it's in stretch denim. The Gray and the Rodeo both come in a petite inseam; the newer Saturday does not yet. If you prefer something softer, the new Eyelet Flare is worth a look: wide-leg pants with tonal eyelet at the ankle and gently scalloped edges. Crisp, feminine, very good with a flat sandal. Tomorrow, Frame will release a capsule collection with Alexandra Leclerc, the influencer and wife of Monegasque F1 driver Charles Leclerc. She holds a real fascination as a sort of real-life princess. The campaign was shot in Monaco, and it almost makes my birthplace look like somewhere you'd want to go on holiday. I promise you it's not. If you're reading this the day I send it, you can preview the collection here, and from tomorrow, it will be shoppable on the same page. The standouts for me are the capri pants with a wrapped waistband detail (very Y2K—Alexandra Leclerc is 23 after all—but also wearable) and a new pair of jeans called The Leo. It looks like Frame is trying to replicate the success of the Gray: low rise, just a little less baggy. It will come in a petite length. There's also a pair of low-rise burgundy leather pants that I’ve wishlisted for myself, which would be right at home as part of my evening uniform (maybe after they go on sale).

• It has come to my attention that fashion editors get their ballet flats from a brand called Yuni Buffa. Yuni was born in South Korea and honed her skills designing for brands like Rag&Bone and Loeffler Randall before starting her eponymous brand. All materials for the shoes are sourced in Tuscany, where the shoes are also manufactured in family-owned factories. Their signature style is the Pia ballerina, which comes in a range of neutrals and brights, including the perfect cherry red. Yuni designed the Pia after watching a ballerina customize her shoes before a rehearsal as she repeatedly flexed the toe, scored the sole, and adjusted and re-adjusted the straps. The Pia features an elastic cinch cord, an elongated square-toe, and a deconstructed interior for a bespoke fit. I also really like the Marmi boat shoe. All styles come in half sizes.

• designed a collection for WNU (With Nothing Underneath), the British brand that makes the best button-downs (for $200 - $250) and the seersucker boxer shorts that are the only thing I wear when temperatures go above 86°F (size up for comfort: that elastic waistband is anything but flimsy). My favorite piece from Lucy’s capsule is the cobalt blue fine poplin trousers.

• Sometimes I zero in on finding a specific piece. It happens when a gap keeps surfacing when I get dressed. I don’t mind it. It’s usually a sign my sense of style is deepening. My latest quest was a (genuinely) cinched-in black jacket. It had to be sculptural and fitted, with no synthetics in the lining or the self, and short enough for my short torso. I was happy to shorten the sleeves. This led me to Róhe's double-faced sculptural jacket (100% wool, unlined) and Soeur’s Ira jacket, a blend of cotton and linen with a cotton body lining. (There’s an acetate lining in the sleeves, but if I don’t sweat in it, no one will.) We’re going into spring, so I bought the latter, and I’ll save through the summer to buy the Róhe come October. The Soeur jacket is so damn good. I bought it in a 34, and it fits like a glove. The waist is truly cinched in, the sleeves rounded and tapered with extra volume. It goes with all my favorite pieces. I wear it as a top with nothing underneath but my bra. Wild goose chase successful. Soeur is a brand that has frustrated me in the past. I loved their designs and found their price point interesting, but their fabrics would let me down: too synthetic, too stiff. They were once briefly on this newsletter’s exclusion list (the brands I never feature due to poor quality). They’ve made a flying comeback over the last two years as I’ve found myself falling for more and more of their pieces, and the materials have matched or exceeded my expectations. There are two Soeur shops in my neighborhood, so whenever you see a recommendation for the brand here, know the pieces have been vetted IRL. • Alex Mill released the Carolyn sunglasses (styled below). For what it’s worth, these are not another design inspired by the fashion icon; they are the exact design she wore. The sunglasses, an oval frame with hinges on either side, are a re-edition made in partnership with Selima Salau, whose optical shop Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr. visited multiple times in the 90s. The shop was located just around the corner from where the couple lived. Selima describes them as “very friendly and down to earth” and says that Carolyn knew “exactly what she wanted.” Back in the day, Carolyn purchased the sunglasses in four different colors, and Alex Mill made them in five, including classic tortoiseshell and soft lavender. While you’re here, the brand recently released lots of great linen basics, but it’s their Coco Sport Pant that I love seeing styled. It has a more structured knit than your average cotton jersey pants for people who have vowed not to wear regular sweats outside the house but want the comfort. You’ll love them especially if you’re on the shorter side as they have a short inseam. Sizing runs large on this style.

• As part of their Summer 2026 collection, Frame released a new pair of jeans called The Saturday, a low-rise, straight-leg silhouette. They released it in their rigid, non-stretchy denim for now. The low-rise comeback makes me stupidly happy. Other highlights from the collection include this soft, airy, slightly boho-like silk top (there’s a long-sleeved version if you like your arms covered), a ‘Gallery’ silk and cotton collarless blouse, and ‘Gallery’ army-green relaxed pants (styled below). These shorts are not my style, but if you like quirky pieces, you must take a look.

• My favorite thing landing in my inbox this week was this. These days, I’m spending a ton of time thinking about working-from-home—and generally low styling-lift—outfits. I think about how I can help you (and myself) put together outfits you feel great in, in less than 3 minutes. Pieces like this one from Still Here that you can add to a t-shirt and pants look to make you feel dressed, have so much equity in a wardrobe. Big fan.

• Aritzia just dropped a collab with G.H. Bass, which includes 8 pairs of leather and suede loafers. The Milton—I like it in Chocolatier brown—has a square toe, and the Spence—I like it in the khaki tan suede—has a round toe. Both styles feature a penny tucked away in the saddle and classic apron pleating, true to the Weejuns design the heritage footwear brand is famous for. If G.H. Bass had anything to do with it, these will be great quality loafers.

• LESET released the April collection. The Kyoto windbreaker is now available to pre-order in khaki (styled below) and navy. Found yourself thinking “A pop of bright red would have looked great with this outfit” recently? The new seasonal color is a clear warm vermilion red, and they’ve washed it over all their best-sellers: the Margo tee, Kyoto carpenter pants, and Kyoto carpenter shorts. If you wear your brights in small touches, buy the James crew or James cardigan and tie it around your waist. If you prefer a muted 90s palette, combine the Margo in aqua and the Barb silk skirt in cement. If you have a large chest, do not buy the Yoko blouson top. Trust.

• Emme Parsons is growing their collection slowly and mindfully, as every brand should. So I’m always excited when they add a new silhouette to their lineup. This week, they released the Delicat, a minimal, slip-on sandal with a tapered 55mm heel. It comes in black embossed croc, red, white, and gold. And with that, the barely-there sandal is set to be one of the most enduring and defining footwear trends of this decade.

• If I didn’t need to wear a bra, I would buy St.Agni’s new suede apron top.

• In January, reflecting on how far she’s come, Jamie Haller talked about how fashion feels like a club you’re always trying to prove you belong to, and how even with all the growth and attention, she still feels like an outsider. What she wants her brand to be is its own kind of club: the kind you’re invited into. The brand’s recent launches include the V fave, a cotton cashmere V-neck sweater inspired by a 1980s YSL men’s knit. The new scrunchie heel is a kitten-heel sandal with elastic scrunchie-inspired straps. They are sporty and flirty in equal measure, and available in butter yellow and deep olive green. The brand also restocked the walking sandal in nude (a few sizes left in black, too) and, just this morning, added new colors to the Driver loafer.

• Tibi Summer 2026 is here. The brand is one of the only ones I trust to use synthetic fabrics for design, not cost savings. But because I would still not wear a synthetic blend top (too sweaty), and because I know my readers are purists, the natural fiber pieces that stand out are: this poplin dress you could genuinely wear to an event and to the beach if you choose your accessories carefully. It has pockets! This top has a sculptural front and a barely-there sultry back. I LOVE these raw-edge denim shorts (I’m having a raw-edge summer) and I would buy them one size up so they hang low on the hips. Styling long shorts is terrifying; they can feel so unflattering. • Pieces from Kallmeyer’s beautiful runway continue to trickle down. This week, that included a strapless dress, a floor-length skirt, and an asymmetric top in black-and-cream rose-printed brocade, the Tilda collarless shirt/jacket, and my favorite piece in this collection: the James jacket, a relaxed-fit blazer with a bouclé grid tone-on-tone pattern. The matching trousers are available if you’d like to go full-out relaxed summer tailoring.

• TOTEME has released new spring/summer pieces, and this beautiful V-neck raw-edge textured viscose slip dress stands out. After styling long shorts for the video I mentioned above, I decided that the most flattering top I could wear with them is a long sleeveless tank with a deep scoop neck, so I ordered this top from their permanent collection, which (randomly) is cut from the same sablé-textured fabric as the dress.

• La Ligne cast Connie Britton as the face of their Perfect 10 anniversary collection. The collection includes the ‘perfect version’ of a cotton shirt, jeans, Breton tee, shirtdress, silk shirt, pants, robe, suit trousers, suit jacket, sweater, trousers, and track pants. The Colby pants that Jennifer Lawrence keeps getting pictured in over and over and over have just been restocked in black. They featured in last month’s roundup of the best ‘fancy soft pants’ by The Cut, in the ‘slouch expert’ category. I personally like the Barrel version best.

• AYR has restocked the chic face-framing Tate Oxford button-down. This week, I was following a Reddit thread from someone ‘considering a wardrobe makeover. Instead of more pieces, I’m thinking of a smaller, more intentional wardrobe that mixes well, still feels comfy, and is easy to pack. Looking for elevated basics with quality that matches the price.’ In the comments, AYR received only positive reviews. Unsurprisingly, many mentioned the Secret Sauce jeans, but there were also many endorsements for their T-shirts. Common praise for AYR pieces is that they ‘wash very well’. We love to see it.

• These slingback pumps from the Tory Burch runway, embellished with a mix of sequins, beads, handmade crystals, and a grosgrain trim, are a true Cinderella shoe.

• Speaking of sparkle, DÔEN has an occasion capsule. I would wear this slightly sheer silk chiffon ruffled dress to a barefoot-on-cobblestone, low-key destination wedding. This cotton tulle one, scattered with beads, I envision for a celebration at dinnertime in a walled garden. And this lace gown with a cape draping is for a black-tie event.

• Australian label Deiji Studios makes height-of-summer cotton pieces, the kind that floats around your body. Not for you if you like your cotton weighty. Their designs offer a little something extra vs. your run-of-the-mill warm-weather basics. This is a very interesting value proposition for people who, on a regular day, wear a simple top-and-bottom outfit with no time for further styling. I personally appreciate, as a neutral-color wearer, that they come up with interesting shades of brown, gray, and cream when most brands just give us black and white. Their most popular pants are the Pleat pants, a twill barrel-leg pair of pants with an elasticated waistband. Their poplin shirt features pintucks and panel-seamed detailing outlining a layered camisole. Their cotton voile midi skirt has scarf-inspired ties that fall fluidly along the skirt. Their wrap cotton dress comes with softly frayed edges all over. All priced $160-$265.

Like everyone on the internet, I have been consumed by Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie’s every move since the end of last year. This week, it was Hudson's Wonderland cover shoot that got me: him in a blush pink jacket, matching joggers, eating a banana in front of a pink fridge and a pink coffee machine. Below the pictures are tens of thousands of thirsty comments (half of them mine), and buried beneath the collective swooning, the "bring manly men back" comments from faceless finstas.

These are the same comments that flooded Harry Styles’ December 2020 Vogue cover, where he wore a blue Gucci gown. Before that, the same sentiment chased Mercury in his leotards, Prince in his ruffled shirts and heels, and Bowie in his flamboyant makeup looks. The comments, steeped in misogyny, are also ignorant, for cultures around the world see men wearing dresses and skirts to this day. Pink, to go back to Hudson, was originally a color reserved for men in the court of Louis XIV. As late as the 1920s, trade publications in the US recommended pink for boys as it was seen as the stronger, more decisive color. The same goes for high heels, which were adopted by European aristocratic men in the 1600s to signify status. If social media were around back then, someone would have commented: “How would a woman ever be interested in wearing something as masculine as a high-heeled shoe?”

Once you shatter the idea that men should dress one way and women another, styling possibilities become endless. The Love Story discourse has been inescapable, and watching people tear each other apart over CBK's style has gotten tiresome. The only commentary I came across that genuinely excited me was a Note that read: More girls should dress like JFK Jr. (weird hats) and more guys should dress like CBK (little Yohji). It moves beyond the binary idea of women in suits = empowerment and opens a door to something far more interesting. When I was doing imagery research for this piece, I got frustrated. The search for "masculine feminine aesthetic editorial" returned nothing but images of female models manspreading in a suit and tie, hair slicked back, as if ties, braces, and big boxy blazers are the only things men ever wear, and the only "masculine" reference available to women.

Stylistically speaking, the reason contrast within an outfit looks so good, and by contrast I mean pulling from the so-called masculine and feminine Western wardrobes and wearing them together, is that it creates tension. A silk slip under a heavy blazer, a chunky sports jersey over a lace skirt, a pink satin midi with a beat-up graphic tee. Some of the most compelling styling happens when you mix pieces that were never designed to share an outfit. So let’s give this a crack, shall we?

• Reader-favorite brands for natural fiber basics have released newness this week: Donni with new cotton pieces, including this flattering baby rib square neck tank, and Alex Mill with a ton of new linen.

• Still Here launched their Spring Summer 2026 collection. Their best-selling styles get a colorful makeover: pale pink for the Cool Jeans, cornflower blue for the Snap tank, and burnt orange for the Stoop shorts.

• Scarosso doesn’t have the cool cachet of brands like Still Here, but it makes classic, meticulously handcrafted shoes of pristine quality. Their loafer is practically the only shoe I wore in 2024—300 out of 365 days at least. I’m not going to say they didn’t look bruised and well-loved by the end. I wore them into the ground as I always do when I find a great pair of shoes, a habit I’m trying to break (I did the same with my TOTEME boots last year, and they’ve seen better days). Keep in mind that with any good leather shoe, you should expect the leather to soften significantly over time, i.e., don’t size up. My other favorite Scarosso pair is these slouchy boots that are terribly sexy and even more comfortable. I have been wearing them over and under pants, including to a Heated Rivalry-themed club night last weekend (!), where they survived a significant amount of jumping. The brand just released a fun spring take on the boat shoe: the Avery, adorned with a red paracord and daisy charms. The soles are rubber, not leather, so they’ll be even more durable. Sneaker wearers, make sure you also check out their new Riley trainers.

• This week, Mélanie Masarin shared that this is her favorite long-sleeved T-shirt. Here’s a video of her wearing it if you want an idea of fit (very oversized and boxy according to the 160 five-star reviews). It’s on sale right now.

• I have a soft spot for House of Dagmar. A denim jacket they sent me a few years ago is still one of my most-worn pieces. The label, started by three sisters, deserves the same Scandi-brand reverence as TOTEME in my book. This season, their strongest pieces are the occasion-geared ones, not the wedding-guest kind, but the chic-cocktail-party kind. The coordinated pale silver viscose pieces, especially this sheer knit dress worn with the fluid shirt, look (trigger warning!) CBK-esque to me. As does this dress with its knife pleats and sinuous drape. Another option, if cool tones hate you as much as they hate me, is this delicate sheer cardigan or asymmetric paneled dress.

• Frame’s Gray jeans have just been restocked for the fourth time. It’s one of the few pairs with a true low-rise that comes in both regular and petite inseams.

• You might find the urge to buy a new spring jacket irresistible. I venture that the trench, leather, denim, or suede jacket you already have covers your bases. • If the urge becomes too hard to resist, this trench from Rue Sophie’s latest arrivals is under $300, and the ash blue color makes a compelling case.

• COS is starting a 20% off sitewide-ish sale today. It includes everything on this page (my picks are these cropped barrel pants and this layered knit T-shirt, which I have styled for you below), but does not include the pieces from last week’s runway show in Seoul, though those are worth a gander as well. • Another anticipated restock is the Rina long-sleeve T-shirt from Coucou Intimates, an unusual shape with a slim fit, bell sleeves, and a deep dipped front. I like the sporty raglan version to wear with a low-rise silky midi skirt. The brand also released a small capsule of laced cotton voile pieces inspired by French vintage underpinnings, like the Fleur top and Petticoat skirt (it reminds me of my new satin TOTEME skirt, in a different fabric).

• Courtney Grow collaborated with Moda Operandi on another edit and, as you’d expect, the pieces are colorful and fabulous.

• Dorsey launched rings in lab diamonds and moissanite for a tenth of the price. This includes eternity bands in every possible cut: marquise, baguette, emerald, oval, trillion, and round-cut. My personal picks are this slightly less classic bezel-set linked band (it comes in two sizes that look great combined), and this four-stone pinky ring. All are true to Dorsey’s vintage-inspired, heirloom aesthetic.

• While we’re on jewelry, the other launch that stopped me in my tracks is Heaven Mayhem's new Julia Net necklace. A large, smooth stone is cradled in a knotted net cage and suspended from an adjustable cord so you can wear it as a choker or long necklace. A great piece to zhuzh up your everyday T-shirt-and-jeans outfit.

• As I predicted in last week’s letter, the Tory Burch runway is finally here. This is the one collection I checked the website for every day, and the one readers kept emailing me about: “Where are THE skirts?!” I’ve been reflecting on why the brand has this hold on us. Beyond those eye-catching palettes and playful looks, what lingers for me is the message conveyed by the brand’s recent reinvention. In recent years, the designer set her preppy identity aside to create a joyful universe that feels inviting rather than exclusionary. The Row’s antithesis, if you will. This is the page dedicated to the runway pieces. Perhaps calling it joyful undersells the insane attention to detail that went into these designs: the origami-pleated collars of the polo knits or this unassuming black jacket, which features a hidden zipper at the back to change its shape and slits at the collar designed to thread a necklace or scarf through! I can’t pick a favorite among the low-slung skirts, crushed-silk shirt, colorblock bodysuits, and floaty silk dresses. Don’t overlook this mesh bag to add negative space and texture to your spring/summer outfits. How else would you show off your Louise Carmen roadbook?

• Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy's minimalism isn’t going anywhere this summer. For some of you, this is good news. If you never adhered to it, or if you’re ready for something else, Dôen just dropped its second spring drop. It contrasts the 90s stripped-back codes with frills, pastels, lace inserts, fringe hems, and soft florals. The brand shared the moodboards and color story behind the collection, and while I’m usually immune (at best) to copywriting, it succeeded in making me both hungry and willing to drop $400: the creamy yellow of the Marcelle dress and Naida merino cardigan is inspired by “whipped butter and lemon tarts”. The Sidra skirt features pintucks and lace in semi-sheer ramie in a white they call “sea spray, night-blooming jasmine, and milky moonlight glow”. The Amérelle dress is a '30s-inspired silk georgette dress with multicolor florals on a peachy base. Rounding out the palette: the Yvette silk top and Alesia cashmere short-sleeve cardigan boast a silvery blue-green shade. The Alesia is my pick from the collection: I’d wear it open over a silk bra and a low-rise satin midi skirt.

• Parisian shoe brand Le Monde Béryl launched its latest collection. The stars are these beaded sandals, available in ice-blue satin and black or burgundy leather. I have a past-season version of their Babouche kitten heels, and they’re my most comfortable heels by a mile. Order your true size.

• Apiece Apart is one of those brands (as are Another Tomorrow and Almada Label) that make extraordinarily good staples, although it’s not always easy to tell by just browsing their websites. That’s where my job gets most interesting: trying pieces in-store, following Reddit threads, and searching for videos of pieces being worn, so I can tell you which unassuming black cotton pants will give you the sharp silhouette you’ve been looking for. Apiece Apart makes a few of these pieces: the Spa Pleat pants, if you’ve ever swooned over Brittany Bathgate’s precisely structured looks; they’re one of her favorite pairs of pants. She wears them in cream and navy, and the Spring collection brings a new, rosewater color. (Here’s a video of her wearing a few of their pieces.) Another standout piece is the Bari crop trousers: they’re available in both standard-length and petite-length inseams. If you wear neutrals and already have too many black trousers, the Rosin shade is a stunning, deep, dark green.

• Sheerness was a key feature of the spring 2026 shows. Tory showed sheer-knit polos with beaded embellishments, Prada layered see-through skirts over bloomers, and Saint Laurent contrasted sharp tailoring with transparent fabrics. Something to see through, with something worth seeing underneath: Everlane has two launches that let you play with that idea. They brought back their Air Alpaca knit fabric with a crewneck sweater and short-sleeve cardigan. The fabric is semi-sheer, designed to layer over a cami or bralette. They say it’s itch-proof, although I haven’t yet had the chance to test that claim. It’s delicate, so don’t buy it with the intention of wearing it every day; rather, see it as sexy knitwear for evening wear. Your other option is their new ‘Tissue’ fabric. It’s a lightweight organic cotton-Tencel blend, with different sleeve lengths and necklines. I like the boatneck in dusty rose.

• Jamie Haller dropped another cracker of a pant. These have a very baggy cropped silhouette, and the designer calls them her favorite she’s made.

• Rachel Comey is one of those designers (like Amy Smilovic from Tibi) who is laser-focused on the customer and what she needs. When interviewed about her spring collection, she didn’t care for flowery descriptions of inspiration or seasonal messages; she prefers to get technical about fabrics: the mint-shade crinkled satin of this cropped chore jacket and matching midi skirt, the crisp cotton with a hint of stretch used to create asymmetry and pleats on this perfect dress, the light woven gossamer on these unique pants with a skirt overlay, or the softly structured cotton pointelle of this polo. The show for this collection, thrown in the alleyway behind her showroom, where the models did their own hair and makeup, felt like an intimate happy hour. Rachel Comey doesn’t seem interested in artifice and prefers a passionate discussion of the different scenarios, ages, bodies, and lifestyles of the women she designs for.

• Speaking of being passionate about fabric, Anine Bing’s aesthetic isn’t one I feel any particular affinity for, but I will never stop talking about their signature outerwear fabric. It’s a heavyweight, double-faced wool-cashmere blend they use to make structured blazers and coats that they leave unlined: no sweaty poly lining clinging to smells over time. They have a 30% off Spring Friends and Family sale going on, and if you’re in the market for a camel oversized wool trench coat, a deep brown streamlined tailored coat, or a camel short boxy blazer (the cropped version of my beloved Quinn blazer), these are as good as you’ll ever find them. Use code SPRING30 for the discount (US only).

• Your bag is your pop of color? Savette drops their Symmetry pochette and other classic styles in a new chartreuse shade (a high-energy, acidic lime-green) and Hunting Season comes out with a new teal color for my favorite small top-handle bag.

• In accessories, AYR launched silk paisley bandana scarves. This look had a revival moment last month when Tod's sent models down the runway in printed silk scarves pinned with shimmering brooches. Most bandana scarves you'll find are cotton; these in baby blue, ballet slipper pink, and mulberry brown silk, feel less rodeo. I’d wear it as a headscarf.

• Uniqlo’s website is a hellscape, but it’s worth navigating this week for the sake of the Uniqlo U collection. It’s one of their most interesting sub-lines, designed out of Paris by Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran. They bring experimental fabrics and construction that the main collection doesn’t have. This season they’re calling it “neo-core”: a refinement of essential shapes, in a palette of washed mauves, ochres, and dusty purples. Two pieces stand out in the reviews: the easy-gathered pants, pleated trousers with an elastic waist, and a drawstring hem that toggles between a straight and a balloon silhouette. And the cotton-blend short blouson, a transitional jacket that’s unlined, cropped, and made of cotton-nylon twill. The Cut editors who tried it in-store on launch day said: “It’s not too loose and not too fitted. The kind of piece you need on spring mornings that turn into warm afternoons. It folds easily into a bag for when you stop needing it.” Also new: a washable knit t-shirt made from a synthetic blend. Not for the purists, but it delivers on the practicality front.

• And finally, some noteworthy spring sales:

  • The Tibi online outlet just went live.

  • As did Baserange’s archive sale.

  • Tory Burch launched its Spring event: 25% off orders over $200 and 30% off orders over $500 on a selection of items that includes mainly monogrammed bags and shoes like the Reva ballet flats, but also spring dresses, the piercing bag, and the Boaty loafers. Hopefully, the hotly anticipated Spring/Summer 2026 collection will drop soon after.

  • J.Crew has a 40% off sale. My pick is the Kaya pants, which come in regular, tall, and petite lengths.

• Now onto some new things. Donni is one of the most popular spring-summer brands with the readers of this newsletter. You love their regular but small drops during the warmer months. • The maximalist Swedish Stockings bright yellow Roxana tiger tights designed in collaboration with Leandra Medine Cohen are back in stock. They’re an (unofficial) replica of this iconic Chloe Sevigny look.

• Jamie Haller introduces two new Japanese twill pants for Spring. They are garment-dyed to make the colors look softly sun-faded. Here’s how she describes the shape and fit of each one (if only every brand were this diligent on guiding us through sizing!):

  • The Karate pant: A rounded leg shape with a relaxed fit. “Fit notes: They fit loose. We tried this pant on everyone in our office. Everyone who’s a size 10-14 preferred their true size. Everyone who’s a size 00-8 preferred one size down. Order true to size for a relaxed fit that sits about 1” below the belly button on the high hip. Size down 1 size for a more fitted through-the-hips fit that sits at the natural waist.”

• The next selection of TOTEME spring/summer 26 is in, and my recent trip to their shop on Mount Street inspired last Sunday’s newsletter. There, I made my first three purchases of 2026: low-rise trousers with a raw-edge waistband, a skirt with a gauze underlayer, both cut from heavy satin, and a mohair tank with frayed hems. All black, simple cuts, with the interest coming from the fabric and texture. On the way back from my shopping trip, I made a mental note of how these pieces made me feel, something I keep encouraging my readers to do. I chose them because they didn’t feel like clothes I was putting on so much as clothes that let me see myself more clearly. I already know the pants were a 10/10 purchase. It also feels serendipitous when you’re 5’0 and an item designed to be cropped hits at the perfect (full) length. There is a long version of it if you’re tall and don’t want it cropped. The top that matches the skirt I got has an oversized shape and a high neckline that looked severe on me, but if you love structured androgynous silhouettes, it is one of the highlights in the collection. The same goes for the parachute skirt and crinkled gauze pieces.

This week was the last week of Fashion Month, and as I caught up on the last shows, I reflected on how little enthusiasm it had stirred in me compared to previous seasons. Not that Fall 2026 Ready-to-Wear collections lacked lustre, but the prospect of seeing much of the same visual worlds and gimmicks dulled some of the excitement. The image that moved me most was Gillian Anderson closing Miu Miu. Here too I saw the woman first—her work to end violence against women and girls, her commitment to youth mentoring, educational access, and Indigenous rights. Her poise and wit—and the clothes second.

This, along with a lecture I attended in January as part of a course I’m taking at Central Saint Martins, inspired me to explore what the word fashion meant to me. I have always felt a pull to fashion and always will. But exploring what it means is also changing my relationship with it.

Fashion Is Social Before It Is Individual

Fashion is a synonym for trend. The former is culturally sanctioned. The latter, in the age of ‘Timeless Must-Haves’ Vogue listicles and Fashion Substack (I’m coming for you later), has become a dirty word. Still, Fashion describes the ebb and flow of collective taste. A silhouette, a hemline, a shoe, a way of tucking in your shirt that gains momentum because enough people adopt it.

Fashion is a system. It moves through recognisable stages: it’s invented through market or social norms, endorsed by the fashion elite, adopted by the fashion-conscious, diffused to non-fashionable groups, subjected to obsolescence before being revived at the start of a new cycle. Also known as:

“Ugh?! What do you mean, ‘fashion is invented through market or social norms’? Fashion is art!” But what happens behind the runway is no longer purely a matter of creative vision. Today, commercial teams at the top of fashion houses work with trend forecasting agencies to guide creative design teams (yes, even Matthieu and Jonathan) to ensure that future collections appeal to as many customers as possible. This is how, apart from niche designers like Rick Owens, we end up with fashion looking homogeneous. Fashion has grown dim.

This doesn’t mean that a trend can’t also be emotional. I have connected to trends in ways that have felt introspective. But under that lens, fashion is deeply tied to conformity. Fashion is agreeing: a consensus distilled in physical artefacts. Stores buy into them. Editors platform them. Brands reproduce them. Influential dressers validate them. It is collective before it is individual.

Fashion Runs on Exclusion

It is not just collective. It is organised by hierarchy, money, and exclusion.

Fashion is an industry. More specifically, a Western industry. A system of production, circulation, and aspiration that took shape in Europe and developed alongside an adjacent industry: luxury. Its roots are traced to the court of Louis XIV: until this monarch, there was dress—the clothes we put on our backs mostly for function. He and his court turned clothes into tools of governance and social sorting. Fashion as we know it emerged from a world obsessed with rank, image, access, etiquette, and display. Ah!

‘Prada, Balenciaga, Chanel, Saint Laurent. These designers made fashion that changed the way we are. The way we walk. The way we stand. The way we flirt. […] Then the perversion of marketing killed the fashion industry. […] It has gradually become a network of slaves to financial institutions and a hostage to shareholder interests.

An extract from Li Edelkoort’s anti-fashion manifesto. She is one of the industry’s most respected trend forecasters.

My read on movements like quiet luxury has always been that of a trend built around opacity and social fencing. Adopters don’t shy away from sharing the message: you can’t decode this unless you belong here. When I see the exclusivity created around The Row’s fashion shows, I can’t help but ask: Is the point really the garment or the gap it creates? The social boundary is the real product. And we pay a pretty penny for it.

But the power structure does not stop with the old white men who profit from it. We also enforce the codes on one another. If you want to witness this in real time, spend a week on Fashion Substack:

In the last few days, I came across several Notes and posts from women policing other women’s supposedly wrong interpretation of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s style. In the comments, dozens of people seemed convinced they had access to the late fashion publicist’s inner life, assuring us she would never have been on TikTok, posted Instagram Reels, gotten lip fillers, or worn nail extensions had she been alive today. The ugliness of that, during the week of International Women’s Day no less, is hard to ignore. These codes of dress are created for us by men (ouch! I know. But it’s real: the fashion industry is 86% controlled by men, while women drive 80% of its purchases), and we punish one another for reading these codes incorrectly. These posts reflect a broader trend I have observed on Fashion Substack: what began as a space that prided itself on being a refuge for the introverted (I lost count of the Tumblr-to-Substack pipeline Notes) has curdled into this idea that being here confers a higher order of taste and intellectual superiority over women on other platforms.

Fashion Sits Uneasily Beside the Idea of Expression

Expression suggests a person moving outward from selfhood. Fashion often moves inward from outside influence. The tagline I chose for this newsletter when I started it (three years ago next month) was ‘A fashion newsletter celebrating individuality.’ I’ve since removed the F word because I want readers to know that, should they wish to, they can leave fashion out of their wardrobe.

Which many stylish people do.

In fact, many industry researchers and academics suggest that style implies some degree of rejection of fashion. You need only look at the most enduring style icons to see it. Patti Smith inspired generations of designers (Ann Demeulemeester built an entire brand from her visual language), and yet Patti Smith herself was never involved in fashion. She was not participating in the cycle. She was getting dressed in a way that reflected her life: her devotion to poetry, books, photography, and coffee, and the industry borrowed from it. Model Lauren Hutton defied the dominant fashion codes of the 1970s: disco, Halston fluid dresses, dramatic prints, platform shoes, sensual silhouettes. Her wardrobe included men’s blazers, straight jeans, khakis, loafers, and minimal makeup. Her style was closer to American prep and sportswear. Grace Jones, too, dressed against mainstream fashion. In the same decade, she embraced severe tailoring, sculptural silhouettes, strong shoulders, and androgyny. Lauren’s style now looks familiar, not far from the capsule wardrobes of our day. Grace’s style, which once seemed alien to the mainstream, went on to shape club fashion, power dressing, and avant-garde editorial styling. These women are examples of style shaping fashion.

My tutor offered a fun frame for this: style icons are the people others can recognise when you dress as them for Halloween. I kept thinking about that in the context of the Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy frenzy. If someone came dressed as CBK, would anyone clock her specifically, or just read the costume as “cool girl from the 1990s”? Dress as Little Edie, Jackie Onassis’ cousin, and the reference is immediate. Everyone who knows her knows who you are meant to be.

Does that make CBK a fashion icon and Little Edie a style icon? I think it might. Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy has become shorthand for a certain kind of woman, a certain kind of taste, a certain late-1990s cool that can be reproduced and repackaged. Little Edie feels singular. One became a reference point for fashion’s image machine, while the other remains inseparable from the person herself. Fight me in the comments.

Style is a language, a communication system. Which is why it cannot be reduced to formulas. You can borrow silhouettes, proportions, or combinations, but style is a combination of who you are, what you love, what you notice, what you value, and what you reject.

So where does that leave us? Not, for me, in a rejection of fashion: I will always be moved by a beautiful collection and a new silhouette. Fashion still has the power to delight me. But I want to separate it from self-expression. I want to tune into my instincts the way I did during that shopping trip yesterday: What do I need from my clothes today when I feel sluggish and bloated? What helps me recognise myself more clearly? Sometimes the answer will overlap with fashion. Sometimes it will borrow from it. Sometimes it will ignore it entirely.

That is the spirit I want this newsletter to move closer to. It will always offer things to admire, ideas to borrow, ways of thinking through what you wear. But I mainly want the centre of gravity to sit with you, the person getting dressed.

• Every morning, I refresh Tory Burch’s New Arrivals page, hoping I’ll see the low-slung, belt-loop skirts from the Spring runway. No luck yet. Today, it was a treat nonetheless: a silk organza embroidered tank with its matching skirt, a dip-dye tan polo that pairs perfectly with this cream denim skirt, and a shimmery mesh polo dress. Tory collectors: they’ve also just launched the Ella Twist, a reversible tote.

• Baserange launched their Summer 2026 collection. The key seasonal colors you’ll find across their classic Vein and Omato tees are inky blue and cool greige. (I size up in these.) New styles like the silk satin skirt-over-pants and this crinkle linen square dress stand out. Among the pared-back crisp cotton pieces, you’ll find an outlier: a beige tank top with a graph printed on the front plotting mothers’ post-childbirth earnings trajectory vs. fathers. They called it the Unseen tank. Style it sans bra.

• I popped into COS yesterday and found some really strong outerwear (COS always does transitional pieces well). You will love this trench coat if you’re looking for a lightweight one. It isn’t made of classic thick gabardine but a light cotton poplin. I also tried a short version and liked that it wasn’t excessively oversized. There’s also a leather version, but I wouldn’t spend $1,000 on a COS leather jacket when you can find a Nour Hammour one for the same price (there are quite a few on sale here on Net-a-Porter and here on SSENSE). I also found this checked blazer interesting. Aside from outerwear, some good layering tops: I like this on top of this, and this one, which takes away the guesswork. I’d size up in COS T-shirts, especially if you have a large bust. My brain was still color-focused from writing this Sunday’s long letter, so this pistachio green mohair knit drew me in.

• Emme Parsons’ Summer 2026 is here (on pre-order, shipping this month). It introduces the Isabel, a kitten heel with a thin strap across the vent. I love it in espresso embossed lizard and would style it with a midi skirt and sheer knee-highs. There’s also a woven ballet flat. This collection’s pop of color is a cerulean blue seen across their suede Mary Janes and best-selling Bari sandals.

• As a teen in Paris, I would ask for Repetto Cendrillon ballet flats for my birthday. They were €180 a pair at the time (20 years ago). I’m about to burst your Paris shopping list bubble. I respect the brand’s heritage and that they are a ‘true dance shoe for the city’, but I think they’re awful. I can’t imagine that anyone who’s written a positive review about them has worn them for more than two weeks or gotten caught in the rain. They are too flat, not durable, and look bruised very quickly. Granted, some actively aim for this look. I’ve steered clear of ballet shoes for the last two decades because of them, until I recently agreed to give Margaux’s shoes a go. I chose the Phoebe in brown zebra suede. The option of narrow, medium, or wide width should be the norm, but because it is so rare, I felt intimidated. I went with medium width and a 37, my true size, and the fit is perfect. While they aren’t exactly ballet flats (that would be the 1,227 five-star-review Demi), the ones I received are everything the Repettos weren’t: cushioned, comfortable, holding my foot perfectly. I’ve never met an elastic band that didn’t strangle my instep until this one. I will be buying more pairs and have already texted my all-women family group chat about making Margaux their go-to flat shoes.

• FFORME’s latest collection has landed on Net-a-Porter. I also spotted last-spring FFORME among The Outnet’s New In, including the excellent Yancy shirt, Rio asymmetric midi skirt, and Fish oversized jacket. All under $500. Stock won’t last.

• If you detest the stone-and-ink palette and want a respite from the CBK visuals, get yourself acquainted with Madrid-based Maria de la Orden. Maximalists will appreciate the crushed-raspberry striped jumpsuit, the Mao-collar checked coat, and the daisy-embroidered co-ord from their latest drop. Prices average $250, too. The lore escapes me, but my Spanish friends discuss their chic founder at every dinner.

• Attersee has restocked the Cecily jacket, the silhouette likely responsible for putting the brand on your radar in the first place. A striking blazer that sits off the shoulder with a boning-supported structured silhouette (and a silk lining!! Regular readers know I’m a goner for a silk lining.) The ivory colorway is a beautiful bridal option (DM me if you want me to suggest bottom options to pair this with). From their more recent arrivals, I liked this utilitarian silk-nylon skirt.

• Maria McManus showed one of my favorite Spring 2026 collections, so I was excited when it landed this week. The Irish designer’s looks are feminine and urban:

• Uniqlo x JW Anderson Spring/Summer 2026 is here, and there’s a similar checked cropped shirt for even less ($39).

• Ahead of their 10-year anniversary, La Ligne collaborated with model Lily Aldridge, who starred in the label’s first-ever campaign, on a six-piece collection. The campaign was shot at Blackberry Farm, which is oddly elusive to me, as a European. A portion of sales from the collection will go to Mother To Mother, a Nashville-based nonprofit supporting low-income families.

• Net-a-Porter added Jude to their designer roster. The Paris-based shoe brand that launched less than 18 months ago has already been spotted on the likes of Ayo Edibiri, Dakota Johnson, Emma Stone, and, as of yesterday, Kendall Jenner on the cover of Vogue France. I notice two things: First, they make the horniest shoes I’ve seen in a long time. The Date pump is outrageously sexy but also somehow seems sturdy, like I wouldn’t twist my ankle wearing them. As does the Kiss pump. Second, for a brand with this PR caché, its prices are lower than other shoe brands en vogue. I’ve checked Le Monde Béryl, Emme Parsons, Neous, and Jamie Haller, and similar pumps cost 15-40% more. Far be it from me to call them affordable, though.

• Heaven Mayhem launched their first-ever ring collection: five timeless designs in gold and silver. I love that they’re intended to be worn as midi or pinky rings, and I have my eyes on this one as I am partial to a red stone. Prices range from $130 to $180. • Alex Mill launched its Spring collection seconds ago. I’m curious to see how reviews for this new cotton rollneck will stack up against J.Crew’s viral one.

At a time when cold-weather clothes are starting to wear us down, the vibrant looks seen on the runway in October are arriving in stores. Spring collections often feel fresh and optimistic, compared to the duller Fall collections, which comes down to one thing: color. I’ve enjoyed rediscovering Kallmeyer’s duck-egg blue and Maria McManus’ soft lilacs and candy-floss pinks. Our visual system is wired to lock in on color, and color boosts perceived pleasantness compared to grayscale images.

However.

Color on the runway (and on social media) doesn’t always translate in real life. In today’s newsletter, I go through the colors you’ll find in stores this season and show you how to interpret them in ways that are actually wearable. It’s an invitation to experiment with color, and I’m sharing tricks for styling it that I have never shared before.

Before the specifics, the broader principles:

If you want to wear more colors, get yourself a pocket color wheel. It’ll cost you $2 from your local art-and-crafts shop or from you-know-where. It’s a handy display of hues (another word for color), tints (color + white), tones (color + gray), and shades (color + black).

What makes this a great tool for getting dressed is that it shows analogous and complementary colors. It will help you combine colors based on intention:

• Analogous colors make calm, sophisticated looks. The powder rose and dirty peach colors from look 4 of the Chanel Spring 2026 runway are next to each other on the color wheel.

• Complementary colors create bold, contrasting looks that draw all eyes to you while remaining harmonious. The glacier blue and tangerine orange from look 28 of this week’s Prada Autumn 2026 show are opposite each other on the color wheel.

Although a fan of seasonal color analysis (I wrote about it here and here), I don’t think of color styling as a science. It’s deeply personal and relative. Josef Albers, a German artist who was Yale’s Head of Design in the 1950s, spent his life studying the interaction of color. He said, “In visual perception, a color is almost never seen as it really is—as it physically is. This fact makes color the most relative medium in art.” Here’s a short video that illustrates how a color can look completely different depending on the color it’s displayed against. How this relates to personal styling is that emulating a colorful outfit you see on the runway or worn by an influencer is not that straightforward. That could explain why the bright red sweater you bought last fall didn’t land as you hoped it would.

Styling color is tricky. Styling colors together is trickier. Styling highly saturated colors is the trickiest. With experimentation, you’ll get to know your parameters. I would, for example, NEVER wear bright colors near my face or try to emulate outfits like Brooke Callahan’s below. I would look like a child’s nursery homework assignment. I limit my appreciation of primary colors (blue, yellow, and red) to Piet Mondrian.

I love reading about women who discover or rediscover their style in their sixties, seventies, and beyond. I think of style discovery as a practice, not a process. Clothes change as the self evolves, and for women, that never stops. Style discovery should be unhurried: no schedule, no mad dash down the platform, no last call. It is never too late, despite what our ageist, paternalistic Western society would have us believe: this week, The Independent published an article titled ‘At 56, you can’t be a dedicated follower of fashion anymore.’

The older I get, the more I trust that things happen when they’re supposed to. I lean on time like a reliable friend. I left a decade-long relationship five years after I stopped wanting to be in it, to understand much later that I needed these extra years to be ready. I fell in love again three months later. It seemed too soon, but he turned out to be worth it. More recently, I cut ties with a parent after decades of enduring. I hope we’ll mend things at some point, but I don’t wonder when or how the healing will happen. I spent 2025 shedding, rebuilding, and clawing my way back to creativity (it feels good to write these Sunday essays again after a long hiatus). Needless to say, my style discovery practice took a back seat. And that’s OK.

Since the start of this year, I have felt more curious. I’m more attentive to inspiration and hungry for visual cues. I spend whole evenings scouring Pinterest and watching old movies or the SHOWstudio channel on YouTube. I feel like I’m on my way to reinventing the way I dress. And I don’t care if it takes weeks, months, or years. It feels exciting, like holding a secret. A secret I want to document in this newsletter, starting with today’s: a journal of design elements and visuals I have bookmarked in this practice.

Choosing words to define your style does wonders for many. For me, it’s proving to be a little limiting. One of my tutors at Central St Martins used to say that moodboards are overrated; she believed that finding your style is about putting words specifically

• Chan Luu’s spring collection includes a playful nod to the Year of the Horse with horsebit jewelry; these labradorite drop earrings are a favorite. In Ready-to-Wear, you’ll find a miniskirt with oversized mirror sequins in camel and black, ultra-wide pleated taffeta shorts, their pinch-waist cardigan reimagined in a floral jacquard pattern, and to finish your summer outfits, a cotton-silk scarf embroidered with sequins.

• Emme Parsons’ Parker moccasins have been restocked in the Carmen red colorway. COS has just released a similar deck shoe silhouette in dark brown suede.

• Speaking of, COS’ latest arrivals bring very good trousers — like these elasticized merino wool pants with a neat pintuck detail, these cotton barrel-cropped pants, which come sans waistband, and these well-cut tapered twill pants — and quirky accessories like the leopard print pony-hair-effect leather pouch below.

• Rachel Comey’s new arrivals feature the Voila skirt, a cocoon-shaped, cocoon-feel midi skirt with a raw edge in their signature Italian foam fabric. You’ll find utilitarian trench jackets in every collection, but none with the garnet hue of Comey’s Gosland jacket. The brand’s fan-favorite sweatshirts Fond and Stanza get seasonal hues of crushed raspberry and ultra-bright lemon yellow. Both sweaters have permanently rolled cuffs, ideal for creating negative space when styling oversized outfits.

• If your go-to layering tees are the Margo or Laura from LESET, they are now available with a V-neck. The brand also restocked the Kyoto carpenter pants in black. Their February collection introduced the short Kyoto windbreaker and best-selling classics in new shades of butter yellow, bleuet, and malbec.

• Over on Net-A-Porter, The Row’s spring has landed. From the lookbook released for this collection in June of last year, the simplest yet most striking piece was a pair of white, long-john-like underpinnings peeking through the hems of tailored shorts and trenches. To emulate this look, you could invest in the precise Larissa cotton jersey shorts or Kalyan pleated wool shorts and layer them over a more affordable pair of white Bermuda shorts. These from Filippa K or these on sale from Posse seem perfect for it. If these simple monochromatic looks are so visually pleasing, it might have to do with a simple styling principle. I have included a recent video I posted explaining this at the bottom of this email. Look 9 celebrated simplicity with the perfectly hanging Latoya white dress and Floris cotton jersey tee tied around the waist. If this diaphanous look draws you in, but the price tag doesn’t, this new gathered cotton dress from Staud has a very similar chic vibe.

• Moda Operandi just received brand new Flore Flore; new seasonal colors include bottle green and buttercream yellow.

• The first act of Kallmeyer spring has landed, and it’s awash in a calming jade-and-butter palette. The Matilda cape gown and Emme cape top feature ruching across the bodice and a cape overlay that drapes over the shoulders and back. The pepper tweed shrunken blazer and column-leg trousers make for a soft tailoring statement, especially when styled, as it was on the runway, with their slate-and-cream new multi-stripe tees tied around the waist. My favorite piece is the easy-to-wear Regina drawstring skirt in linen stripes.

• CO just dropped its spring collection, which packs structure, texture, and a utilitarian feel. There’s a big bubble maxi skirt in champagne-colored silk charmeuse, a striking workwear-inspired oversized bomber with a stand collar, and plenty of fringe, which I particularly like on this racerback tank. Alongside these statement pieces, you’ll also find solid wardrobe workhorses like this semi-sheer viscose rib tee and these heeled pumps.

• Matteau is the Australian label that perfected the jewel-toned shirred bodice summer dress, a silhouette imitated with limited success by hundreds of others since. As summer winds down in Australia, the brand launched its Vacation sale (up to 30% off the seasonal selection) and its Archive sale (up to 50% off). The prints are ideal for anyone looking to just dip their toe in, as they are often tonal and understated. Their swimwear is also highly rated. Not on sale, but another iconic silhouette the brand has perfected is the oversized fisherman drawcord pants. Shipping to the US is free.

• Nili Lotan released its Spring ‘26 collection. It is inspired by the 70’s era in LA, so naturally it features fringed leather jackets, pinstriped tailoring, polka-dot silk ruffle blouses, and very sexy laced halter tops.

• If you’re into a low-rise, relaxed denim silhouette, Aflalo launched the Verne, they’re baggy with a relaxed fit through the hips, and Frame brought back the Gray and added two new washes and a petite inseam.

• On the heels of their latest Moda Operandi collab, Posse launched their spring/summer collection. You’ll find airy cotton gingham and embroidered silk in muted seafoam tones. I find myself gravitating toward the more solid, perhaps a little less original pieces, like this A-line shift mini dress with puffed sleeves and these cornflower blue cotton poplin pants, since I know all too well that the winning summer pieces end up being the unfussy ones that are easy to throw on.

• New in at J.Crew are this chocolate floral jacquard cardigan and pieces in 2025 Prada’s peridot green, like the mid-rise Kaya pants. The 2025 Rollneck™, a classic cotton rolled-neck knit from the 80s and their catalog days, just got new colors and stripes.

• Tibi’s Spring has landed, and my eyes locked onto the PVC peplum belt. The drop includes a few deceptively simple black dresses designed to layer under it. My favorite is this plissé viscose dress, cut on the bias so it moves with you. If you can pull off the vibrant pea green colorway, more power to you. Another standout silhouette is the voluminous skirt and dress: pinched pleats keep the fabric hovering away from the body. Very cool.

• I’ve always thought Veronica Beard’s popularity comes down to lines: their jackets are built around soft curves rather than blocky horizontal lines. Exactly the kind of detail their ‘flattering’-conscious customer notices. The new Circe jacket might read utilitarian at first glance, but soft gathers at the front and back hem and a subtle bubble shape turn it into something more romantic. If you loved their embellished yellow parka that went viral last summer, they’ve brought back the bejeweled collar, this time on a denim jacket and a plaid chore jacket. Their new Anchor bag has the same allure as Hermès’ Picotin and a $395 price tag. In their sale section, and also embellished, my go-to date-night bag is down to $238 from $600.

• AYR jeans are favored by many, particularly those under 5’4, for their inclusive inseam length options. Reviews praise their impressive quality (though they also mention inconsistent sizing between styles). The brand restocked their best-selling jeans, including the Secret Sauce, dubbed the ‘perfect 90s-style jeans’, and the newer Ray jeans, which have the same fit at the waist, bum, and hips, while being looser through the knee creating a modern flare shape. They also make laid-back pull-on pants like the Space, which stand out from other cotton-jersey pants with their structured barrel shape. A good candidate for staying-at-home-but-feeling-dressed outfits.

• Ulla Johnson’s Spring 2026 just launched. It was inspired by the works of the painter Helen Frankenthaler; ‘In my creative art, pretty and feminine… are words taken to mean not serious or powerful,” the designer said. “And I think Frankenthaler maybe struggled with that too.” The collection is indeed powerful and awash in Frankenthaler’s pastel colors. My favorite piece is the striped Matteo nipped-in blazer that was seen on the runway.

• Santa Fe-based jewelry and glass artist Rebecca Mapes’ latest creation, the Jardin earrings, were inspired by a recent visit to the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City, specifically the sculpture ‘El Barco México 68’ by Manuel Felgueréz. Crafted in solid 14k gold, two Idaho garnets are set within a brushed cube and surrounded by a polished halo.

• My ideal blazer is cut from cashmere, boxy with an 80s feel, not too long, and lined in silk or unlined (a synthetic lining is my biggest pet peeve). That blazer is Anine Bing’s Quinn blazer. I have it in olive and taupe, and it was just released in gray and navy. These shoulders are BIG, you’ve been warned.

• The impending spring means Reformation’s site fills with what they do best: linen dresses and tops in their Eco-Cinch fabric. I bookmarked the Alara knit dress; horizontal lines widen, so the ruching detail placed here creates a flattering hourglass silhouette, should that be something you’re after. The Lilibeth dress is priced reasonably for 100% silk and a cut suitable for black tie. These capri pants look cool in a gray Kallmeyer-esque check. I bought these sateen crop trousers as part of my quest to look chicer to work from home.

• Laoli just launched ‘tiny necklaces’; a strand of small red carnelian, pink opal, amethyst, or lapis lazuli beads is centered with a single tiny diamond.

• Khaite Spring/Summer 2026 has been out since yesterday with a campaign fronted by a browless Kendall Jenner. The most technically impressive piece is the Argo button-down—the menswear fit contrasts the delicate hand-embroidered flowers of satin ribbon and intricate cording on organza. Among the more wearable pieces, you’ll find generously cuffed denim skirts and sophisticated sateen pants.

• Still Here undoubtedly makes the most zeitgeisty jeans, and last week, they released a new pair: the Life jeans. It’s a true mid-rise, straight-leg silhouette with a subtle wedgie fit. The brand just launched on Moda Operandi, which is good news for those based outside the US who wish to save on import duties. You can now get Zoë Kravitz’s pair and Jennifer Lawrence’s.

• Aritzia launched new workwear, and their styling is very strong, as usual. I’m sharing it for anyone who’s office-based: it will give you 50+ cool work outfit ideas, even if you don’t buy anything.

• To celebrate its 10-year anniversary, Dôen has launched a limited-edition 13-piece capsule. The collection draws inspiration from some of the brand’s most successful designs over the years, reimagined and elevated using the highest-quality materials. The Oliana dress evokes the look of an antique wedding dress. The matching soft peach Albertine top and Elowen skirt are rendered in silk chiffon and georgette with hand-stitched pintuck clusters.

• Rue Sophie released a small, well-edited spring collection, including a cream-colored sculptural balloon skirt and more outerwear that’s high quality for a reasonable price, with this Toteme-like scarf cotton jacket and this minimal car coat for less than $300.

• Toteme Spring/Summer 2026 is here. Highlights from the collection include a pair of heeled glove pumps—not dissimilar to the ones seen in the Swedish Stockings campaign below, but with a cooler, higher welt, a fuzzy mohair knit tank dress layered with contrasting viscose, and a new sculptural open-collar silhouette that appears on a jacket and wool coat. The brand also introduced a new bag: the Roam purse, a soft and unstructured tote with a gentle drape.

• Swedish Stockings’ spring collection celebrates contrast. For the campaign, they styled delicate ivory net and mint-colored lace with bold black lambskin leather. The collection also highlights pinks from baby pink to magenta. If you’re restocking your underwear drawer, bundles of black and nude tights are 20% off.

• Margaux released the James, a soft loafer with a rounded square tip designed for a contoured fit. As with all their other pairs, it’s handmade in Spain and comes in three different widths.

• For even less structure, Jamie Haller brought back her ballet slippers in 4 colors. The leather is extremely soft: expect toe outlines and a quickly-developing patina. This morning, the brand also released a new sneaker-sandal hybrid: made using Italian neoprene, it is inspired by the designer’s toddler’s hiking sandals, modern dance shoes, and wanting to walk around the cobblestone streets of Florence in the summertime. Ready-to-wear-wise, their spring collection includes crisp cotton poplin pieces, such as the Italian Summer skirt, and something I have been waiting for: balloon pants available in Petite length/inseam.
